Due to unforeseen circumstances, Harrison County Animal Control is actively seeking cat rescue partners.

As a municipal shelter, we receive an average of 1,100 cats per year. Many of these cats are healthy and adoptable, including some who arrive shy, scared, or undersocialized. These behaviors reflect their circumstances not their potential. With time, patience, and proper placement, many of these cats go on to thrive in homes and become loving companions.

We are in urgent need of rescue collaboration to help us expand lifesaving outcomes for cats who deserve that opportunity.

We will always prioritize public safety and public health, but we remain committed to advocating for the cats who never asked to end up here.

If your rescue organization is able to partner with us, please email [email protected]

Rescues must be a 501c3 nonprofit organization. Harrison County Animal Control reserves the right to request professional references.

Together, we can give more cats the chance they deserve. ๐Ÿˆ

โ€ข Deworming
โ€ข A voucher to be spayed when weโ€™re old enough

Thanks to some very kind people and Paws for Promise, we now have a bright future ahead of us!

Lucky.. he was originally surrendered to animal control at 11 years old so his life was turned upside down. Shortly after he was surrendered he got adopted and a few weeks after he was returned to us. He was returned due to not liking the smaller dogs in the house. As of now we will say he is NOT cat friendly or small dog friendly. He is dog selective so if interested in him and you have other dog(s) we highly recommend a meet and greet.

Intake Date: 2/16/2026
*Male
*11 years old
*Neutered and Microchipped
*71 lbs
*UTD on vaccines and dewormer
*4DX tested (Lyme Positive) currently being treated for it
*Adoption fee: $125

Way to apply in comments below.

We love the animals while they are here in our care. But let's be realistic - a shelter kennel is no long term place for an animal.
Every single one of these dogs are amazing. They are all trainable, spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccines. Sure some may have quirks - but don't we all? Quirks can be worked with or placed into an appropriate situation.

Beyond the Kennel: A Second Chance to Shine
For a dog, a shelter is a world of "too much"โ€”too many loud barks, too many unfamiliar faces, and too much uncertainty. It is a place where even the best dogs can lose their spark to anxiety and boredom. But beneath the stress of the kennel is a loyal companion waiting for the quiet of a living room to truly show who they are.
Why Your Home is the Cure:
The Power of Routine: While shelters are unpredictable, your home provides the stability dogs crave. In a consistent environment, pacing and "kennel stress" often melt away into peaceful naps.
Healing Through Connection: Dogs are social beings who thrive on human bonds. Your presence provides the "mental stimulation" no toy can replace, helping a fearful dog rediscover their confidence.
A Lifelong Bond: There is a unique gratitude in a rescue dog. When you help them transition from the chaos of the shelter to the comfort of your couch, you build a bond rooted in trust and resilience.
How You Can Help Today:
Adopting isn't just about "saving a life"โ€”it's about giving a dog the chance to be a dog again. Whether itโ€™s through Positive Reinforcement Training or simply a quiet corner to decompress, you have the power to reverse the impact of shelter life.

Consider Fostering to give a long-term resident a much-needed break from the kennel environment.

And SHARE - Sharing is Caring. The more you share - the higher the chance of SOMEONE seeing a dog they just 'click with'.

Posting again - as we have received some bags but always will need more.

๐Ÿ‘‹Hi friends!
We had an influx of 12 puppies come in and we need your help.
We could really use some puppy chow! 12 puppies will eat us out of house and home. ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿฆด We will post them when available.
We use Purina Brand Puppy Chow in the blue bag.
We are noticing as well some have pink/sensitive skin - so Purina Pro Plan Development Sensitive Skin & Stomach Salmon & Rice Large Breed Dry Puppy Food would be welcome as well! We know it's more expensive so we could mix it in to help.

You can ship to 2450 Saltwell Rd Shinnston, WV 26431. Or drop off any time between 8am - 4 pm.
If you would like to donate $$ and let us order, you can paypal to [email protected] or Venmo to HSHCWV - please be sure to put puppy chow in the memo.
And as always thank you! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜€
