South Bay Women’s Network Announces Closure After 42 Years of Service
After more than four decades of empowering women and strengthening community ties, the South Bay Women’s Network (SBWN) officially announced it has closed its doors.
Founded in 1983, SBWN served as a welcoming space for women to connect, develop professionally, and grow as leaders. Through monthly meetings, professional development programs, charitable initiatives, and scholarship awards, the organization built a legacy of support and inspiration that touched countless lives throughout the South Bay community of Los Osos, Morro Bay, Cayucos and Cambria.
Since 2000, SBWN has awarded more than 123 scholarships to female re-entry students at Cuesta College, totaling $71,360—an enduring testament to its commitment to advancing women’s education. Members believe the impact of these contributions, along with the professional relationships and lasting friendships formed over the years, will continue well beyond the organization’s final meeting.
Leaders of the network said the decision to dissolve the organization was made thoughtfully, citing the evolving needs of today’s professional women and changes in the broader volunteer landscape. While formal operations are coming to an end, they emphasized that the spirit of SBWN will live on through the leadership skills cultivated, businesses supported, and enduring personal connections formed under its banner.
The organization expressed gratitude to the members, supporters, and volunteers who contributed to its success over the past 42 years, noting that their dedication made SBWN a vibrant and meaningful part of the community.
As the South Bay Women’s Network closes this chapter, its legacy remains one of empowerment, service, and lasting connection. We will be maintaining our email address [email protected] for the rest of the year.
