It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our friend and longtime coach, Ron Whitmill.
Words cannot express the heartbreak we feel. For more than 20 years, Ron was such an important part of our Vision family. He was an incredible coach, but even more importantly, an incredible person. The impact he had on so many players, families, and fellow coaches is impossible to measure.
Ron had a true gift. His knowledge of the game, his patience, kindness, and unwavering belief in his players brought out the very best in everyone. He made every athlete feel valued, supported, and capable of more than they believed possible. It is no surprise that so many called him “my favorite coach.” He was truly one of a kind and he will be irreplaceable.
To all of the players Ron coached over the years, please know you are in our thoughts and prayers. Ron loved each of you and was so proud to be part of your journey. Coaching was never just about volleyball to him. It was about relationships, mentorship, and family. He cared about all of you beyond the court, and he considered so many of you part of his extended family.
On a personal level, I have known Ron for more than 40 years, since we were in high school together. I am so thankful for his friendship, and all the memories, laughter, and shared experiences. I feel fortunate to have witnessed the man he became and the countless lives he touched along the way. Even though I was older, Ron was and will continue to be a mentor to me. He taught me so much, not only about coaching, but also modeled how to truly care for the people we coach. I will miss him so much.
Our deepest condolences and love go out to his wife Heidi, his children Ronnie, Vanessa, and Danielle, his mother Betty, and all of his family and loved ones. Thank you for sharing Ron with all of us and allowing him to become such a meaningful part of our lives.
Ron’s legacy will live on forever in the countless people he coached, inspired, encouraged, and loved.
We love you, Ron, and you will never be forgotten.
