Most people know the signs of a stroke. Far fewer know their personal risk.
Prevention isn't just about reacting to a health emergency. It's about paying attention long before one happens.

For years, Tom searched for answers as dizziness, balance issues, and other symptoms disrupted daily life. Eventually, doctors uncovered the cause: multiple ischemic strokes.
Today, he continues to focus on recovery, gratitude, and pushing forward.

Could your heart rate reveal something about your stroke risk?
New research found both very low and very high resting heart rates were linked to a higher risk of stroke.

Both unusually low and high resting heart rates may be linked to an increased stroke risk, though more research is needed to confirm a causal relationship.

‘Surviving wasn’t the hard part — learning how to live again was.’
Tom’s words say everything about what recovery really looks like.

After a life-threatening medical crisis, Tom’s journey didn’t end in the hospital. It continued in the quiet, difficult moments that followed — the panic attacks, the sleepless nights, the fear of taking one step too far from home.

But it also continued in the small victories: the walks on the beach, the friends who showed up, the deep breaths that calmed his heart, and the support that helped him rebuild trust in his body.

Tom’s story is a powerful reminder that healing is messy, nonlinear, and deeply human. And it shows just how much strength it takes to keep choosing recovery, day after day.

He was told six times that his heart was fine.
Days later, he survived a widow maker heart attack, cardiac arrest, and eight minutes without a stable heartbeat.
Now, years into recovery, he’s sharing what changed most: how he sees time, health, fear, and life itself.

I suffered a severe LAD / widow maker heart attack and cardiac arrest. I had a fifteen Ejection Fraction (EF), and could not walk more than six blocks for several weeks after being released from the hospital. My doctor did...

Caregivers, this one’s for you.
Support can help recovery… or unintentionally make it harder. It’s not about doing more, it’s about how you show up day to day.
Listening. Slowing down. Letting progress take its own pace.

She went from teaching history to relearning how to speak, read, and walk after a hemorrhagic stroke changed everything.
Now, years later, she’s found joy in gardening, baking bread, and slowing down enough to appreciate the little things.
