The weekend approaches and you are trying to figure out what to do. As a single person in a big city many people would say that you have a million options for entertainment. After all it is not as though you have to account to anyone for your time or whereabouts. As a single person you are a "free agent" and capable of picking up at the slightest inclination and heading off for some great adventure every weekend if you wanted to. Freedom is definitely one of the perks of being a single adult in our society.
But what if the majority of your friends are not single? While the happy couples are fighting over the IKEA catalogs or making lists of possible baby names, what does the intrepid single person do while their friends are encompassed in the domestic life? You can certainly start to feel left out unless you get creative with your entertainment choices, particularly if the appeal of the bar scene or your local pub has worn off.
Take a Class
Community Colleges offer continuing education on weekends and evenings. Some of these classes might be credit courses (and count toward pursuing a certificate or degree) but some might simply be common interest or electives aimed at teaching you a new skill or providing you with a new creative outlet. Classes are available in art, photography, language, culinary, fitness, computer software and many more.
Get Moving
The gym remains one of the best places to meet likeminded people, regardless of your level of fitness. If your goal is to lose weight consider the opportunity to meet someone who shares that goal and can work out with you. If you are interested in nutrition or fitness plans, the gym is the best place to network and ask questions. Typically people are very happy to share what they know including techniques for achieving results.
Blog
If you are new to the area you live in, meeting new friends can be difficult. If writing is your forte, take some of your interests and layout a social blog. Perhaps start a club or a dog walking group. Use the blog as a way to share and connect with people in your community.
The most successful and happy people are those that manage to keep themselves engaged in interesting activities in groups or independently. It shows a balanced approach to life.
