42 years ago on Tuesday this week, 400 rioting union workers overran Firebaugh's Levy and Zenter packing shed- within 20 minutes, they were on their way to Los Banos. Their target was the Lindemann packing shed. The riot left 21 injured and 19 arrested. Read more about it in the article written by docent and board member Javier Powell in the Westside Express, or the link below.

Photo Caption; The only known photo taken during the riot. Los Banos Lt. William St. Marie, left of center, wearing a white helmet. Others (from left to right): Officer Dan Fitchie, Sgt. Dale Bigham, an unknown officer, a then well-known Los Banos resident known as “Wolfman” and Officer Carey Reed. Photo contributed by Marge Birdsell and Dan Fitchie. Photographer unknown.

62 years ago on July third this photo was taken of Pacheco Pass. In the left hand side you can see the pre-dam alignment and a small look at what used to be San Luis Flat (now underwater). Curving to the left is the temporary bypass road. And curving to the center of the photo is the familiar slope of the modern Pacheco Pass. You can also see the land that is now the O'Neil Forebay.

A busy day at the Milliken Museum! Today, we hosted a field for approximately 40 students! Mrs. De La Cruz and Mrs. Molina's 2nd grade classes from Los Banos Elementary had a blast splitting up into groups of 3 to solve the Scavenger hunt! Thanks, , for providing the jumpers and games!

If you're interested in bringing your students on a field trip, call 209 826 5505 or email [email protected]!

This was reported as the second most attended parade (right behind the Rose Bowl Parade) in California in 1954, and it took place in Los Banos. What event was it? For the answer and more information about this Merced County tradition, please join us for the "Celebrations and Festivals Around Merced County" exhibit opening on March 13.

Don't forget our upcoming Arbor Day Breakfast on March 7th, served between 7 to 10 AM! With a $10 donation you get a full breakfast of Ham, eggs, and pancakes and your choice of coffee or juice! It will be held at the Los Banos Community Center located at 645 7th St. Your donation will go to helping us preserve and share our rich local history.

If you haven't gotten a ticket yet, you can always buy one at the door as you come in!

Fun fact about the Community Center, it was designed in the style of a nearby Miller and Lux Warehouse where train cars were loaded. The warehouse still stands today even if the tracks it served no longer exist.
