Happening tomorrow, October 20, at 7pm (PT)! ⚠️ TelevisaUnivision’s affiliate station in Los Angeles Univision 34 Los Angeles will present a California gubernatorial forum produced in partnership with ChooseChildren 2026 featuring separate 30-minute, one-on-one interviews with confirmed candidates Xavier Becerra , former U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, and Steve Hilton, former adviser to British Prime Minister David Cameron and Fox News contributor. Each candidate will respond to questions that incorporate the voices and concerns of California communities on issues impacting the entire state.

In this month’s Policy Corner, our Policy Analyst Andrew Avila reflects on the momentum building to support student parents in California. In recognition of this September, Andrew shares highlights from two recent conference sessions he co-facilitated, focused on increasing access for through the passage and implementation of (Senator Eloise Gómez Reyes) and by strengthening partnerships between institutions and local child care agencies. RSVP today! Last fall, California crossed a milestone: for the first time, every 4-year-old in the state became eligible to attend (TK), a school-based preschool program. As the state makes this historic investment, policymakers want to know: Will it pay off?

Join us in Sacramento, CA next Thursday, Oct. 22nd for a briefing hosted by Early Edge California, the Learning Policy Institute, and UC Berkeley Equity and Excellence in Early Childhood (E3C). Researchers from UC Berkeley will provide key insights into this question, sharing compelling findings from their upcoming brief on TK's initial years.

This event is designed for California state legislators and staff, state administrators, education advocates, and others working to improve children’s academic and life success.

Last month, our team presented at EdTrust-West's 2026 Ed Equity Forum in San Diego. During the event’s pre-forum session, Student Parent Action Institute, our Policy Analyst Andrew Avila presented about the origins of our co-sponsored bill (Gómez Reyes) and ongoing efforts for implementation in support of .

Our Director of Policy Carolyne Crolotte also hosted a session alongside partners from Californians Together, EdTrust-West, and SEAL - Sobrato Early Academic Language, where they shared practical tools and strategies to prepare and support (TK) educators in meeting the diverse linguistic and development needs of their students.

It was a wonderful opportunity for the Early Edge California team to connect with fellow advocates, policy experts, researchers, educators, and student and parent leaders from across the state. 💙
