From New York to LA, New Orleans to Cincinnati, Oakland to Miami, Detroit to Dallas, the issues are chillingly similar. BDN will employ a variety of approaches to achieve its stated goals. This organization will pair vigilance with advocacy and policy initiatives with community development. BDN will establish, as well as foster connections between businesses, financial institutions, think tanks an
d other organizations dedicated to improving conditions in black communities across the country. BDN will be a hub in the wheel of progress. In the 150 years since the Emancipation Proclamation black people have remained the primary target of American white supremacy. In the 50 years since Freedom Summer, precious little has actually improved for black people. Mass incarceration has skyrocketed. Police brutality is rampant. Job discrimination is ubiquitous. Segregation is pervasive. Blacks by and large remain locked in perpetual poverty, a permanent underclass. Other organizations once focused on defeating racism (like the NAACP) have now apparently outlasted their usefulness. The Black Defense Network believes this is the time for new tactics, strategies and leadership. To continue with the same approach expecting different results is the definition of insanity. We desperately need a new organization with fresh energy & ideas to tackle 21st century realities. The time has come for an organization committed to a core principle: improving conditions for black survivors. BDN is that organization--but we also need you! Please help support your new best advocate and monitor, The Black Defense Network!
