Filipino American Press Club of California Celebrates 14 Years of Excellence, Honoring Founder and Community Visionaries at Star-Studded Gala

The Sheraton Cerritos Hotel ballroom was transformed into a sanctuary of elegance, high energy, and haute couture as media practitioners, business leaders, innovators, and community pillars gathered for the Legacy and Media Awards Gala. The spectacular evening beautifully blended prestigious accolades with high fashion, live music, and unforgettable performances, marking the 14th anniversary of the Filipino American Press Club of California (FAPCCA).
The emotional heart of the gala belonged to FAPCCA Founder "Tita Thelma Calabio who was the evening's first honoree. In a stirring tribute, the host recognized her as the primary reason for the gathering, noting that without her vision, FAPCCA would not exist today. The announcement brought the room to its feet for a standing ovation, accompanied by a warm round of applause and a celebratory toast honoring her 14 years of dedicated leadership.
"I am deeply honored and humbled by this recognition," said Tita Thelma. "Seeing how far FAPCCA has come over the last 14 years, and witnessing the incredible talent and resilience in this room tonight, is the greatest reward a founder could ask for."
The gala also drew a distinguished lineup of VIP guests and elected officials, including Vice Consul Levi Anthony Malaylay representing the Philippine Consulate, Former Cerritos Mayor Frank Aurelio Yokoyama, and Carson Councilmember Arleen Bocatija Rojas, who delivered an inspiring address to the attendees.
The event celebrated outstanding individuals across a multitude of industries, drawing roaring applause for awardees that included top media practitioners, Certified Public Accountants (CPAs), film producers, directors, artists, educators, entrepreneurs, and grassroots community leaders.
Fashion and entertainment took center stage throughout the night, featuring:
• Avant-Garde Fashion Showcase: Designer Kiel Ortega unveiled a dramatic collection of black avant-garde fashion, featuring beautiful fabrics and striking capes.
• Timeless Glamour Collection: The Lou Razon Gown Society shifted the mood later in the evening, showcasing an elegant array of evening gowns.
• Electrifying Musical Performances: Rising teen star vocalist and actress Amber V energized the room with a high-octane pop performance following the first awards presentation.
• Grand Finale Celebration: Renowned Filipino vocalists April Velasco and Band, Garth Garcia, and Imelda Bosing anchored a high-energy finale that kept awardees and guests dancing well past midnight.
The Legacy and Media Awards Night of Excellence successfully highlighted a common thread of resilience, passion, and a shared commitment to shaping a better future for the Filipino-American community.
