Great achievement by this administration

At long last, as of July 2026, the Philippines has attained Upper-Middle-Income status, as announced by the World Bank on July 1, 2026. This reclassification from Lower-Middle-Income to Upper-Middle-Income marks an important milestone in our efforts to eventually be considered a High-Income economy, alongside the likes of South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Spain, and Chile.

1. ๐“๐ก๐ž ๐‚๐จ๐ฆ๐ฉ๐š๐ง๐ฒ: Through Topanga Hospice Care Inc., she allegedly billed Medicare over $9.1 million for hospice services from ๐—๐˜‚๐—น๐˜† ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฌ, ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฑ - ๐—”๐—ฝ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—น ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฎ6

๐Ÿ. ๐“๐ก๐ž ๐…๐ซ๐š๐ฎ๐: Many patients billed were reportedly not terminally ill. Over $8.5 million was allegedly paid out.

๐Ÿ‘. ๐‘๐ž๐ ๐…๐ฅ๐š๐ ๐ฌ: The company had an 85% โ€œnon-death discharge rate" โ€” far above the U.S. national average of 17.2%. That means most patients were discharged alive, not from hospice care.

๐Ÿ’. ๐Ž๐ญ๐ก๐ž๐ซ ๐œ๐ฅ๐š๐ข๐ฆ๐ฌ: Investigators allege some patients and recruiters were paid cash, wheelchairs, and medical supplies to enroll in hospice, even if they didnโ€™t need it.

The FBI and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General are leading the investigation.

U.S. authorities are also reminding the public to protect Medicare information and be alert for scams.

This happened late of last year:

Doctor Sentenced to Seven Years in Prison for $24M Medicare Fraud.

According to court documents and evidence presented at trial, Alexander Baldonado, M.D., 69, of Queens, received tens of thousands of dollars in illegal cash kickbacks and bribes in exchange for ordering laboratory tests, including expensive cancer genetic tests, that were billed to Medicare by two laboratories located in New York.

Another Fil-Am couple arrested for Hospice fraud.
Nita Almuente Paddit Palma, 76 and husband Adolfo Catbagan, 68 y/o of Glendale, California face 11 indictment, operating 3 fraudalent hospice care facilities. They submitted $4.8 million
false claims to medicare beneficiaries who were not terminally ill and got paid $4.2 million

โ€œOperation Never Say Dieโ€ by US Department of Justice is a federal crackdown to target $60 million medicare hospice and healthcare fraud ring in Southern California.
These led to 15 individuals (doctors, nurses, psychologists) charged/arrested on April 2026.
3 of the 15 people arrested were of Fil-Am descent.
Authorities urged the public to be aware and report fraudulent activities in healthcare.
