☀️Summer is typically the absolute worst time for animal rescues as the number of people wanting to get rid of or dump their animals increases dramatically. And this year has been no different.
⚠️FYI as of right now we can only take in guinea pigs adopted directly from our rescue. Per our adoption contract if your situation changes and you can no longer keep your guinea pigs they must come back to Southern California Guinea Pig Rescue. We are not as active on Facebook so please email us directly if you adopted from us [email protected]
💫For everyone else wanting to rehome your guinea pigs, go to your local shelter or ask friends and family for help. We get far more requests from people wanting us to take their pigs then we could possibly ever take in.
Many of these purchased from pet stores by people who did little to no research ahead of time, or who got them for small children and now have figured out how much work they require and no longer want to deal with it. It's frustrating for rescues to read these messages day after day from people just wanting a rescue to jump in and take care of these animals that they purchased or irresponsibly obtained.
❗️If we said yes to every single one of you who have messaged us asking us to take your guinea pigs we would be unable to take care of the ones we already have.
😟Saying NO is about the hardest part of what we do but it is the ONLY way to ethically and responsibly operate a rescue.
