The Good Shepherd Shelter welcomes with love and compassion women and children of every culture, color and creed whose lives have been affected by domestic violence, and offers them a unique environment for long-term emotional, social, educational and spiritual healing and growth.

GSS had another incredible BBQ! ❤️ We enjoyed delicious food, meaningful conversations, and time together with our board members, volunteers, current families, and former survivor families.

Highlights included a prayer led by Monsignor Cox, a powerful personal story shared by Adriana, one of our brave survivors, and a special tour with Deana. A huge thank you to our amazing staff and volunteers for making this special day possible, and to everyone who continues to support our mission to empower women to break the cycle of violence and build independent futures.

Thank you to longtime board member Jenn Saylors and her colleagues at Banc of California for delivering school supplies and donations to Good Shepherd Shelter!

Everything was picked out so thoughtfully and with such care. Our teachers are grateful for the classroom supplies, and the families were thrilled to receive their backpacks, each with a handwritten card from the donors.

Learning is an essential part of GSS. Our women learn life skills like budgeting, resume building, and the tools to live independently.

Today, Deana led a cooking class: how to make an easy, budget-friendly meal using what you already have at home, one that stretches into multiple meals.

Today's recipe: ground turkey with onions, tomatoes, and spices. Turn it into pasta one night, tacos the next. Simple and delicious!

We are so thankful for our partnership with QueensCare . Their support powers our Trauma-Informed Mental Health Holistic Program and staff wellness, plus a free nurse consultation right here at Good Shepherd Shelter every 2nd and 4th Monday, offering blood pressure and blood sugar screenings, health education, case management, and referral services.

We love seeing their smiling faces and are so grateful for the care they bring to our community.

Summer school is in full swing, and our amazing staff are making a difference every day, bringing joy and support to our kiddos! One of our little girls shared that this was her first time in a pool.

A big shoutout to our incredible volunteers, Michael and Brendan from Loyola High School, for creating special moments like this!

We are thrilled to share some wonderful news. 💜 Through Erewhon's limited-edition "You're Doing Amazing Smoothie," created with Kris Jenner for Mother's Day, EREWHON proudly supported Good Shepherd Shelter, a transitional shelter providing treatment, education, and supportive services for women and their children recovering from domestic violence.

What a gift. This generosity directly supports the families in our care as they heal from domestic violence, rebuild their confidence, and work toward brighter futures.

To erewhon and krisjenner, thank you for seeing our families and standing with them. And to everyone who ordered a smoothie this spring, you were part of something meaningful. Together, we are helping break the cycle of domestic violence, one family at a time. 🌸

Volunteer Spotlight: Sean

For more than four years, Sean has been a familiar face at our lunch program. He stays with the kids while they eat, warms up their food, supplements meals from our pantry, and makes time to play, giving our teachers a well-earned break.

As the school year ends, the kids are thanking him with small gifts and big hugs. Sean and the kids will miss each other dearly this summer. Thank you, Sean, for showing up for our kids day after day.

A big thank you as well to our other lunch volunteers: Kyaw Hsan, Jason, Tiara, Adriana, and Ashley.

Big day at Good Shepherd Shelter! 🎓✨ Today we celebrated ALL of our kids — from our littlest ones to our graduating class — for an incredible year of growth in reading, writing, and math, new friendships, and social-emotional learning.
