Dance Camera West relaunches in 2020
We are excited the DCW Festival will be presented January 9-12, 2020. We have selected 50 films from a record setting number of submissions. Join us next month at REDCAT in Los Angeles for four days of screenings featuring Los Angeles, U.S., North American and World premieres selected from submissions from over 40 countries! Opening night will feature a premiere of a film by Edouard Lock, founder of the renowned Canadian company LA LA LA HUMAN STEPS , and Katrina McPherson, one of the first generation hybrid screen dance artists. Tickets will go on Sale December 16 at REDCAT.org.
As part of the evolution of dance film, DCW will pay screening fees to all selected filmmakers, and work toward the larger goal of implementing annual awards and commissioning and creating opportunities to make new dance film work.
The DCW2020 program will be curated by DCW’s new and returning Artist/Executive Director Kelly Hargraves, one of DCW’s original co-founders, and a dance-filmmaker herself. DCW2020 has created an international selection of 50 films for the Dance Camera West 2020 program, selected from over 340 submissions from over 40 countries.
Dance Camera West aspires to present the very best examples of the visual language of dance made for the screen in a way that stretches the way we think about dance. The annual Dance Camera West Dance Film Festival showcases many forms of dance including modern, post-modern, world dance, tap, dance theater, ballet, hip-hop and virtually all dance that has been created for film and video.
