We are so proud of Cyndi for becoming a 2020 Field Science Fellow with the UC Natural Reserve System!!

As a UCLA undergraduate, Cyndi researches how personality and cortisol levels affect learning in ground squirrels at the UC Natural Reserve System’s James San Jacinto Mountains Reserve for her 2020 NRS Field Science Fellowship. The fellowship provides financial support enabling undergraduates to conduct full time field research for a summer at a UC Natural Reserve System reserve with mentoring from a UC faculty member.

Additionally, if youth have been in more than 5 placements their chances of incarceration at some point in their life is 90%. It is our goal to disrupt the "foster care to prison" pipeline and help our students navigate the college pipeline instead.

Former foster care students are having a hard time adjusting to online classes and campus closures due to COVID-19. They no longer have on campus housing or traditional resources; they need things like printers, computers, and wifi that they would usually utilize on campus.

One of our students, Ashli, is doing a live gesture drawing session on Instagram for artists this Thursday 4/9. She has previously posed for Disney, Dreamworks, Cartoon Network, Netflix, Nickelodeon, and more. All donations support our foster youth trying to get through college. 1 out of 5 children who were in foster care will become instantly homeless on the day they turn 18. Compass for Youth is working to ensure foster care youth are moving into a dorm room when they turn 18, not fending for themselves on the streets.

Another exciting day! Our student Ashli was accepted into a Master's degree program. She will be attending Colorado State University in the fall in their Masters of Conservation Leadership program!! She has overcome tremendous obstacles and we are so proud of her.

It's the most exciting time of year for our organization because it is college acceptance decision season! One of our foster care students, Caleb, was accepted this week to California State University, Northridge (CSUN) from Chatsworth High School to attend their business degree bachelor's program. He hopes to become an entrepreneur that gives back to his community 🙌🏼🎉 We make university attendance a tangible reality and help foster care youth with every step of the process.
