Listening to Black voices is crucial for building a fair and inclusive society. Black individuals offer unique insights into systemic issues, including economic disparities and environmental injustices like climate change.

Today, we highlight Anthony Thigpenn, a pioneering community activist and political strategist. He founded SCOPE and California Calls, organizations that amplify the voices of marginalized communities, especially Black individuals and low-income families.

Thigpenn's legacy includes developing the Power Analysis, a tool used nationwide to assess power dynamics and strategize for effective action. This approach has transformed grassroots organizing, providing a systematic way to challenge power structures and create effective campaigns for social change.

Anthony Thigpenn's story is a powerful reminder of the valuable contributions of Black voices to our society. By listening to and uplifting these voices, we honor their experiences, wisdom, and resilience, advancing progress for all.

What’s going on with rent debt?? [en español abajo]

This research from U Penn gives us a sense of how rent debt is affecting our communities…

Recap?
1. Amount of debt >>> amount of assistance & more than half of tenants with debt were likely unable to pay it back by the Feb 1 deadline…
2. vulnerable people have more debt
3. most people are only a few months behind on rent
4. the pandemic dramatically increased the percentage of households with rent debt and we have not been able to recover
5. large landlords are far more likely to evict tenants who have rent debt

We cannot sit back and let rent debt push THOUSANDS of households into the street. We have to do something about this debt. And we can.
