❗️ Update: Our Reading Circles are nearly full❗️

Muslims for Progressive Values is excited to once again partner with Dr. Hasib Nasiri for two new Reading Circle cohorts.

The first, Reading Circles in Islamic Feminism, is a year‑long journey into the thinkers, debates, and intellectual traditions that have defined Islamic feminist thought.

The second, Reading Circles in Q***r Islam, offers a carefully curated exploration of gender and sexuality in Muslim traditions, bringing together critical gender analysis, historical insight, and contemporary Muslim narratives.

For nearly two decades, Muslims for Progressive Values has helped hundreds of couples of diverse faith backgrounds formalize their marriage vows while incorporating the traditions of Islam 💍☪

Assalamualaikum

Thank you to everyone who commented, reached out, and messaged us with your concerns about the use of AI in a previous post we shared promoting our upcoming Passage of the Day App.

We read every comment and shared the feedback with our partner, who is helping to develop the app and who created the original video to promote across MPV channels. We want to offer our apologies for sharing a video that was created in a way that is antithetical to the values of MPV and indeed the values of Islam.

In full transparency, not as an excuse but rather as an explanation, we want to share why our partner used AI to create the original promotional video. They are based in a Muslim majority country whose government subscribes to very strict interpretations of Islamic theology and their identified madhab.

In working on an app that diverges from the state-sanctioned interpretation of the Qur’an, our partner is putting themself in a precarious security situation and felt using AI would be the safest way to mitigate any risk to themself and their family, hence the choice to use AI, rather than record themselves and expose themselves to authorities, in the initial video.

All that to say, we are sorry and we take full responsibility, as ultimately we shared a video that was made using technology that conflicts with our principles of compassion, critical analysis, and universal human rights.

We hope this new video, with a voiceover from MPV’s President, will demonstrate the true impact we hope the Verse a Day App will have on our community.
