“From Hope to Heartbreak: A Puppy Rescue Story”

Late one night, I received a phone call from a friend asking for help bringing two puppies across the border. Without hesitation, I jumped into action and quickly figured out what was needed to safely and legally get them into the United States. She was able to bring the puppies from Mexico into the U.S., and we immediately made sure they were seen by a veterinarian to ensure they were healthy.

Unfortunately, this situation is not uncommon. For decades, people have been selling puppies at the border—many of them sick, unvaccinated, not dewormed, and far too young to be separated from their mothers. They are often held like props as cars pass through. While I understand that in some countries selling a puppy means food on the table for a family, it doesn’t make it right, and I do not condone it.

These two sweet puppies were examined by a vet here in the U.S. At first, they seemed to be doing okay, but it was clear that Wolfie was much weaker than Foxy. Despite every effort and doing everything possible to keep him alive, Wolfie’s little body just couldn’t handle it anymore. Losing him was absolutely devastating. No matter how long you do rescue work, it never gets easier when you lose one—especially when you’ve fought so hard for them.

My friend did everything she could to make sure both puppies were safe and loved for the time they had. While we lost Wolfie, Foxy is doing really well. She is strong, healthy, and now has the chance at a life she would not have had if she had stayed in Mexico.

Rescue work is hard enough on its own, but consecutive days of rain—being soaked every single day and still having to complete all of our chores—makes it even more exhausting. The holidays came and went without time for family or friends. I was here at the rescue every single day, because this work requires true dedication.

Running a rescue means showing up no matter the weather, no matter the holiday, and no matter how tired we are. We do this work without pay because 100% of your donations go directly to the dogs. On top of that, I still work a full-time job, making my days nearly 17 hours long.

We keep going because the dogs depend on us.

Happy New Year, my sweet girl. You came into my life about seven years ago, broken and terrified of the world. I tried to place you in a foster home, hoping it would be easier for you—but your heart knew where it belonged. When you tried to run away, I brought you back to the rescue, never realizing that bringing you back would change my life forever.

t’s been over a month, and I waited to share Pearl’s story because I was grieving the loss of this little angel who came into my life. Pearl arrived with so many medical issues, and we tried everything to figure out what was wrong. We went to three different vets and ran countless tests. The best we could determine was that she may have had a stomach ulcer or tumor that caused severe diarrhea and dehydration. She also had cauliflower ear.

Despite everything her body put her through, Pearl was always happy. She followed me everywhere. I took her with me whenever I could, and she became such a light in my life. I will always miss her.

I was with her until the very last minute. Saying goodbye is never easy, no matter how many times you do it. But we gave Pearl the best possible two years she could have. She went from being a neglected backyard dog to being deeply loved. And even though she never found a “forever home,” she was in her forever home—with me.

She slept in my bed. She traveled with me. She became everything to me. Even a month later, it’s still hard to write this. Losing something so precious is never easy, but I am forever grateful that she knew love, comfort, and safety in the time she had

Tinker is the sweetest soul. She’s gentle and loving, but she is severely emaciated and very shy. No dog deserves this. No living being deserves this.

As you celebrate, please remember those of us in rescue who are out here every single day making sure our animals are fed, clean, and staying warm. We’re working in the cold, the rain, and whatever weather comes our way to ensure they are safe and cared for.

I want you to watch this video and truly understand what it takes to run a rescue. It isn’t fluff. It isn’t sitting on a couch holding a sign asking for help. It’s real people doing real work.

These are the ones who get up at six in the morning, who show up no matter the weather—rain, snow, heat—seven days a week, 365 days a year. We do it because the animals depend on us.

Frankie & Jasper were born outside in the Riverside mountains to a very sweet mama dog named Lily. Thanks to a dedicated and compassionate person who noticed Lily was pregnant, she was carefully tracked and followed until help could arrive.

Rock N Pawz Rescue was ready and waiting to receive Lily and her puppies. Lily was incredible—gentle, loving, and trusting—and together we were able to save her life and the lives of her babies. Frankie and Jasper are here today because someone cared enough to act, and because rescue stepped in when it mattered most.

As a rescue, we can’t always be out chasing dogs in the field. On any given day, we’re juggling countless responsibilities—caring for the animals already in our care, fundraising to keep food on the shelves, staying caught up on paperwork, filming and posting content to keep our supporters informed, and constantly making sure we have the supplies we need to survive.
