We love hearing the buzz of creativity in our new Tinker Tank!

Thanks to the generosity of Harbor Freight, we’ve rolled up the shop doors at U.S.VETS Ventura to a space for veterans and their families to find inspiration. It’s a healing, restorative workshop, where our residents repair, rebuild and rediscover their passions.

From projects large and small—fixing a broken chair, designing outdoor benches, creating something special for a neighbor—we’re learning together, building camaraderie and picking up new skills side by side.

It’s always a great day when our community comes together to support veterans, but last week a dedicated squad of volunteers in Phoenix brought the extra wow factor.

Our friends at The Home Depot Foundation and HandsOn Greater Phoenix joined forces to enhance spaces at the newly-opened M.D. Hawkins Veterans Center at U.S.VETS-Phoenix—including upgrades to an outdoor pet area and a hand-painted wall mural honoring those who served.

We welcomed Judge Michael Hawkins, a Marine veteran who the building is named for, and leaders from Phoenix IDA, including CEO Juan Salgado and Board Member Jack Dover, a U.S.VETS Phoenix Advisory Council member.

We’re filled with gratitude to work with our partners and create a safe place for veterans to call home, backed by the resources they need to move forward.
