Serena Au, occupational therapist from Salvin Special Education Center (who also teaches art because her school does not have a dedicated art teacher), came to support fellow educators and for the unveiling of his new mural dedicated to UTLA members.

LAUSD still refuses to commit to fully stocking custodial supplies and guaranteeing clean schools (they are also refusing to commit to more hours and staffing for custodians). Educators should not be forced to buy toilet paper, paper towels, and cleaning products with their own money to stock their classroom and school restrooms. Schools should not need to rely on parents to donate them.

At the end of every year, the district leaves hundreds of millions of dollars unspent on books and supplies, despite budgeting for them at the beginning of the year (therefore no longer counting as “reserves”).

LAUSD is forcing UTLA members to take up additional jobs to make ends meet. Educators and school staff across the district should not have to take on this burden. One job should be enough.

UTLA members face an array of obstacles that prevent them from earning more salary points. LAUSD can change that. They can choose to fix the broken and inequitable salary scale.

04/01/2026

LAUSD's broken and inequitable salary table puts educators and their families in unnecessary financial strain and does not reflect what the district can actually afford to pay.

The district claims to respect and care about educators and school staff, but their actions and proposals at the table say otherwise. Here's a glimpse into the reality for educators working for LAUSD.

By rejecting UTLA's proposal on Pupil Services & Attendance counselors (PSAs), Psychiatric Social Workers (PSWs), and School Psychologists, LAUSD has been disrespecting the much-needed and impactful work of itinerant UTLA members.

For more than a year, LAUSD has failed students and their families by rejecting UTLA's bargaining team's proposals to add 125 PSAs, 125 PSWs, and 125 School Psychologists to the existing centrally funded allocations with additional support for educational options schools.

Additional Pupil Services & Attendance counselors (PSAs), Psychiatric Social Workers (PSWs), and School Psychologists means that our students and families would have access to mental health resources as they need.

03/26/2026

PSAs, PSWs, and school psychologists are critical to ensuring that students have the support they need both inside and outside the classroom, especially during a time when families and our communities are facing ICE raids, housing insecurity, and more.

03/26/2026

Pupil Services & Attendance counselors, Psychiatric Social Workers, and School Psychologists are essential to the well-being of our students. Families are facing unprecedented times. The visible presence of ICE and immigration enforcement across Los Angeles has taken a toll on families and our communities.
