HOPE is here at last.

The incomparable Jer Edelman secured this puppy’s safe surrender and transport from Dana Point to Laurel Canyon.

I have handled an inordinate number of puppies in a lifetime highlighted by lovely canines, and this puppy is exceptional.

Intelligent. Sweet. Loving. Funny. Loves dogs.

She has excellent prospects. And better yet, she has Lili’s stamp of approval!

Well, Hello Dolly!

Little Miss Dolly Pawton, the major medical baby bulldog. Did you see that halftime
show?!

Dolly, approximately 8-10 weeks, had a lot to be grateful for this Thanksgiving. Dolly was dumped- quite literally-tossed over a fence into a parking lot of a vet clinic we were told.

It was the night before Thanksgiving and Dolly presented with one of the worst prolapses we’ve seen.
Finding a vet willing to perform the emergency surgery that night proved challenging. Necrosis was apparent, so it was urgent.

The amazing team at Laurel Kinder’s Kinder 4 Rescue Pet Clinic leapt into action. A resection was necessary.

Rescues Rock received the call late that night asking to please step up for this mushy little mess over the Holiday weekend.

Word broke over
the weekend that the deadly Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex (C.I.R.D.C.) is now in Los Angeles. BarkPark is now officially on lockdown.
No canines in or out (adoptions obviously!)Dolly’s follow up’s will be handled very carefully!

Dolly is recovering nicely.
She has a check up on Wednesday. This will take place in the parking lot. Remember Covid protocols?

Her cherry eye and skin issues will be addressed once fully recovered from the prolapse surgery.

Donations made through our website are available to the rescue in 72 hours, donations made through Facebook on Giving Tuesday often do not reach an organization until mid-January. Donations made via Venmo and Paypal are available same day!

Rescues Rock focuses on underage puppies and kittens requiring medical care. The average kitten in the Kitten Critical Nursery at BarkPark costs the rescue 350.00 in food, vaccinations and s/n. Neonatal kittens require 24/7 bottle feeding- double that. A kitten with neuro, ortho, and extensive medical... can cost the rescue upwards of 1000.00

The average puppy in the rescue's care costs the rescue upwards of 600.00. Parvo, Neuro, Ortho puppies- quadruple that!

And these are our costs with serious rescue discounts from exceptional veterinarians.

Shelters and rescues like ours are underfunded nationwide- and crushed with new demands. You'd think the animal welfare scene in America was in decline. You'd be wrong. National organizations, like The ASPCA and The Humane Society are flush with funding.

Are you, your friends, or your family making donations to the ASPCA and HSUS?

A new study by Center for the Environment and Welfare reveals that the majority of donors to these huge organizations are under the assumption that their donations to HSUS and ASPCA make their way to local SPCAs and Humane Societies. This is absolutely not the case!

Only 2% of the 390 million in the ASPCA budget makes its way to shelters and rescues nationwide. And 1% of the HSUS' 260 million. California shelters and rescues received 0.15% from ASPCA and 0.06% from HSUS in 2022.

We need this to change.

Giving Tuesday is next week, November 28th. Giving Tuesday is a day of support for Non Profit organizations.

The Center for the Environment and Welfare held a survey in regards to the nationwide animal shelter crisis and fundraising. (Please find a link to it in the first comment.)

This crisis is real and we, as a nation, need to redirect how we support animal welfare. The hundreds of millions being raised by the ASPCA and The Humane Society are NOT reaching those who need it most: the municipal shelters and the rescues that support
them!

Today I’m asking for our supporters to create your own individual Giving Tuesday campaigns here on Facebook, Instagram and even Tiktok- in support of Rescues Rock! Help spread the word that money is needed by the boots on the ground working directly witn the at risk animal population.

Rescues Rock has stepped up for dozens of litters of kittens and so many puppies/dogs requiring medical assistance this year.

Each healthy kitten, on average, costs the rescue 350.00 in food, vaccinations and s/n. And this is healthy kittens, and this figure is not taking into consideration the costs of staff, litter and misc supplies. Puppies? Quadruple- and consider we take on mostly medical pups,neurological medical pups with tests in the 1000’s, requiring medications and therapy.

Our shelters are overcrowded, under staffed, losing veterinarians and we need to support them as a community, nationwide.

Mystery respiratory illness in dogs is making headlines across the nation this morning. Here it is in The New York Times. Yesterday in Time Magazine.

It's no mystery, folks.

We have a serious puppymill issue in this country, matched only by an unchecked illegal back yard breeding scene. Some of the biggest contributors to this scene are fake rescue organizations slinging these sickly, in**ed pups and the federal, state and city agencies that are turning a blind eye to all of it.

Sickly pups being imported from China and other countries, transported across state lines from Amish and unscrupulous puppymill operations- all with fake or non-existent health certificates!

Canine Influenza was brought to the U.S. years ago by rescues importing sick dogs from China.

Holiday season is here which means dogs will be l
placed in boarding facilities across this country and placed at
risk of contracting an antibiotic resistant respiratory infection.

If you have a deep, barrel chested breed, a brachycephalic breed or a senior- please exercise caution when making plans to board, groom, or send your four legged family member to day care etc…

The illness can include a cough, fever, lethargy and a loss of appetite. Veterinarians recommend that owners avoid boarding their dog if it shows symptoms.

Sammi, adopted from East Valley as a puppy 6 years ago, has a new playmate (she has lost two in the last year) and Margo has added a pillow- sharing, snuggle bug who is as sweet as he is adorable!

Mister Smith, The Pyrenees with Great Promise.

This young lad is a super hot mess after running around the desert for a month. His hips and knees - yikes- they give out from under him. Full ortho assessement and PT are in his immediate future.

He’s emaciated, has worms and fleas. An ear infection. Two of his four dew claws are ripped and infected.

He’s never lived inside and has no manners, but such a kind heart and he is very eager to please and receive praise and affection…
