En Garde Arts is the innovative non-profit theatre production company headed by Anne Hamburger and driven by diverse and interdisciplinary artists. Our productions harness place, occasion, story, and the producing process itself to create theatre for social change. Tonight is the world premiere of 73 Seconds!

We couldn’t be happier for the incredible artists who brought this work to life, especially Jared Mezzocchi, who created, wrote, and performs this solo piece each night, and Aya Ogawa for their powerful vision and collaboration.

73 Seconds tells the story of a son trying to piece together family histories that arrive too late. It lives in the fragile line between the personal and the cosmic.

It has been a joy to share this moving new work with our sold-out preview audiences, and we cannot wait to continue welcoming more people into New York’s most intimate planetarium, tucked inside the Lower Eastside Girls Club.

Bravo to the entire constellation of designers, your vision and transformation of this space has made this a truly one-of-a-kind site-specific experience.

This morning, En Garde Arts was lucky enough to receive one of Ellen Webster’s beautiful hand-written thank you notes from her legendary Thank You Note Project. Since 2014, Ellen has written more than 10,000 thank you notes as an exercise in “intentional noticing,” to recipients ranging from ferry operators and postal service workers to authors, theaters, and book stores. We are three weeks away from the first preview for 73 Seconds and this note couldn’t have come to us at a better time: “The American Theater! Where humanity, beauty, and gumption are celebrated and communities built.”
