Earlier this year, our community came together to advocate for Safe Parking programs. Together, we helped restore critical city funding.🙌

But the work isn’t over.

Public funding still leaves significant gaps, and programs like our Veterans Safe Parking Program remain at risk without additional community support. Unless we secure new funding, our Veterans site will close on September 30.

Every night, people across Los Angeles rely on Safe Parking LA for a safe place to park and sleep while they work toward more stable housing.đźš—

Your donation helps keep our lots open, our services available, and our staff there to support people when they need it most.

We fought hard to protect safe parking. Now we’re asking our community to help sustain it.

We're proud to recognize Golub Capital UCLA Anderson Board Fellows Craig Bennet and Taylor Carnevale for their service to Safe Parking LA!

The Golub Capital UCLA Anderson School of Management Board Fellows Program connects MBA and MSBA (M.S. Business Analytics) students with nonprofit organizations for a yearlong board service experience. Fellows serve as nonvoting board members, contribute to committees, and complete a strategic consulting project tailored to the organization’s needs.

Craig holds a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience from Dartmouth College and is currently pursuing his MBA at UCLA Anderson School of Management. He previously served on the board of the Unitarian Society of Santa Barbara, where he co-chaired the annual fundraising campaign and helped lead a governance model transition.

Taylor is a fully-employed MBA candidate at the UCLA Anderson School of Management, focused on organizational governance and finance. Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, she works at California Forward, a statewide think tank that spans state policy advocacy and hands-on capacity-building with communities and regions.

We're grateful to Craig and Taylor for the contributions and insight they bring to our mission. To learn more about our Board Fellows, visit the link in our bio or visit safeparkingla.org.

As public funding landscapes continue to shift, sustained community investment is more important than ever to ensure our unhoused neighbors can access safe, stable support.

Safe Parking LA is honored to receive $25,000 from Dignity Health Southern California Hospitals Northridge Hospital Medical Center in support of our Vanowen Safe Parking Program in the San Fernando Valley.

This investment helps ensure access to safe parking services, case management, and financial assistance for our participants, many experiencing homelessness for the first time.

Support like this helps us provide the life-saving services Angelenos need. More than 21,000 people in LA County are living in their vehicles on any given night, making continued investment in Safe Parking programs critical for working individuals and families with nowhere else to go.

On Friday, May 15, the LA City Council’s Budget & Finance Committee will decide whether to restore funding for Safe Parking programs in the City’s 2026-27 budget.

This decision will directly impact thousands of Angelenos living in their vehicles who rely on Safe Parking for safety, stability, case management, and a pathway back into housing.

The proposed budget includes devastating cuts to Safe Parking programs citywide. After years of reduced funding, this proposal moves Los Angeles closer to eliminating one of the few homelessness interventions specifically serving vehicle dwellers.

Now is the time to speak up.

Safe Parking is a common sense, low-cost homeless intervention that saves lives and improves public safety. Los Angeles cannot afford to abandon people who have nowhere else to go.

For more than 20 years, Salvatore built a successful career as a professional dancer, performing alongside artists like Prince and Lady Gaga. After stepping away from the entertainment industry, he built a stable life in West Hollywood, working at an animal shelter and adopting his best friend, Rocco.

Then a devastating hip injury changed everything.

After undergoing hip surgery, mounting medical bills forced Salvatore to leave his apartment. Before he could fully recover from surgery, his second hip failed as well. Unable to work and with nowhere else to go, Salvatore and Rocco began living in their vehicle.

Through PATH, Salvatore was connected with Safe Parking LA and entered our program where he was able to recover from a second surgery. With support from his case manager Alma, a safe place to park each night, and the companionship of Rocco by his side, he slowly rebuilt stability and began working toward permanent housing.

Six months later, a housing opportunity came up and he and Rocco found a home of their own. Today, they live together in a cozy one-bedroom apartment, and Salvatore is looking toward the future with plans to return to entertainment as a choreographer or dance instructor.

Salvatore’s story is a reminder that homelessness can happen to anyone, and that safe parking, compassion, and support can help people rebuild their lives.

Safe Parking LA was featured this week in a blog post by Paul Asplund as Safe Parking Programs across Los Angeles face complete defunding under the Mayor’s proposed 2026–27 budget.

The City reimburses Safe Parking providers at a flat rate of $40 per night for a safe parking space through Safe Parking LA. That investment helps people remain safely sheltered in their vehicles before circumstances deteriorate into far more costly interventions including emergency shelter, encampment resolution, hospitalization, and law enforcement involvement.

We are grateful to Paul Asplund for helping elevate the importance of this work and the urgent need to protect safe parking as part of Los Angeles’ homelessness response system.

There is still time to reverse the Mayor’s proposed cuts to Safe Parking funding. Submit written public comment to the City Budget & Finance Committee in support of continued Safe Parking programs: LACouncilComment.com | Council File #26-0600

Huge thank you to our amazing group of student consultants from the Pepperdine Service Leadership program.

Over the course of 6 months they worked hard to develop a cohesive social media strategy for Safe Parking LA. They truly came to understand our program through volunteering at one of our West LA safe parking programs and spending time with staff and board members at SPLA's HQ.

We wish them the best as they graduate and bring their thoughtful impact to the working world! We can't wait to see what they do next.

On Monday, Safe Parking LA attended the City Hall budget hearing alongside members of the Safe Parking Advocacy Network Los Angeles (SPAN-LA). Lived experience community members, nonprofit representatives, and Angelenos at large spoke about why Safe Parking programs are essential services that must remain funded in the City of LA’s budget for the next fiscal year.

Delvin Henriquez, 57, who found our programs through is a participant at our downtown safe parking program. She spoke about how Safe Parking LA helped her find stability and housing after three years of homelessness.

Delvin’s powerful testimony proves what we see every day as service providers. There is a clear need for Safe Parking programs in Los Angeles. It is crucial that funding for Safe Parking is included in the 2026-27 city budget.

Protect Safe Parking.

Last Friday, Safe Parking LA Executive Director Matt Tecle, appealed the decision to cut funding for Safe Parking at City Hall and fought for our programs to remain a cornerstone of homelessness prevention in LA.

Currently, 4 of SPLA’s sites are at risk of being completely defunded, in addition to the Veterans Safe Parking Program, which lost funding this past year.

Today, Monday, April 27, at City Hall, public comment for the City’s budget is happening. We need community voices and lived experience to show the City Council and the Mayor’s office why Safe Parking is vital to Los Angeles.

Your voice makes a difference.
