The LA84 Foundation has awarded $1.9 million in grants to 27 organizations working to expand access to sport, play, and movement across Southern California!

These investments will support more than 400,000 youth across Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Diego, and Ventura Counties, advancing our commitment to play equity and ensuring more young people can experience the benefits of sport. From after-school programs to adaptive sports and non-traditional activities like surfing, golf, and lacrosse, these investments are helping organizations working to remove barriers and open doors for young people across the region.

This year’s Play Equity Summit brought together more than 500 leaders across sport, media, philanthropy, and public policy making this one of our most impactful Summits yet.

As Los Angeles prepares to welcome the world for a historic run of global sporting events, the Summit challenged us to think bigger: How do we turn these moments into lasting impact for kids and communities?

We play because it matters, and this is our opportunity to build a future rooted in access, belonging, joy, and inclusion through play.

We are grateful to the leaders, athletes, coaches, and the nationwide play equity community from near and far who showed up and brought real energy, perspectives, and purpose (+sneakers!) to the room.

The theme of Beyond Spectacle: Play Because It Matters was felt in every conversation and we hope this gathering gave you what it gave us: Inspiration, renewed energy, and a deeper commitment to continue our work in ensuring all kids can experience belonging, joy and inclusion through sport and play.
