Happy Monday!
We are celebrating the signing into law today of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act which benefits the LA Streetcar project by expanding the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Transit Administration (FTA) “Small Starts” program. LA Streetcar has been in “project development” for this program since 2014. The FTA periodically updates the program to keep up with escalating costs: the last time the Small Starts program was increased was 2015.
Now that we are environmentally cleared (CEQA certification in 2017, NEPA “Finding of No Significant Impact” in 2019) and once again eligible for Small Starts, the LA Streetcar project will continue pursing acceleration of LA Metro Measure M funds and applying to the FTA so that we can begin construction and be open for service well before the LA28 2028 Olympic & Paralympic games!
We are also excited about the work we have been doing with the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power (LADWP) to identify new funding sources that will help leverage utility relocations for the LA Streetcar project into broader electrical grid upgrades in DTLA that will support continued housing development and transportation electrification/electric vehicle charging.
LA Streetcar, Inc., is looking forward to working with our stakeholders, local electeds Mayor Eric Garcetti & Kevin de León, and our agency partners at Metro Los Angeles , LADOT Transit, LABOE, and the FTA to deliver this project in support of the ongoing transformation of DTLA into a truly livable, accessible 24-7 urban community!
