The awesome power of habeas corpus, to release those from detention who were denied due process.

“Observing human behavior confirms that for some among us, the perfidious lust for unbridled power and the imposition of cruelty in its quest know no bounds and are bereft of human decency. And the rule of law be damned.”

In 2026, let’s remember that if California were its own country, it’d have the second highest incarceration rate compared to NATO countries. Second only to the United States. 😲

This is a deliberate system that cages people, keeps families apart, and turns harm into policy instead of care. 💔⛓️

We don’t accept this as normal.
We organize. We fight back. We build freedom. ✊🏿✊🏽

WHAT WE’RE READING: The number of people 55+ behind bars has QUINTUPLED in 30 years. Most of this population poses little threat to public safety.
Older inmates are far less likely to reoffend and far more expensive to incarcerate, costing up to five times more in medical care and 14 times more in medications.

Locking people away for life isn’t “tough on crime”—it’s wasteful and ineffective. Turning towards smarter policies like compassionate release, strengthening parole for aging inmates, and requiring sentence reviews after 20 years means resources can be redirected toward public safety, education, and prevention instead of lifelong confinement.
