“I am tremendously grateful for this support from APAFT. This funding will help me further develop 'HUNGRY GHOST' — it hasn’t had a chance to be workshopped yet and that opportunity is critical to the life of any play. A big thanks for creating space for the growth of both this piece and my artistic voice." - Lisa Sanaye Dring, APAFT East West Players David Henry Hwang Writer’s Institute Scholarship Recipient. You can help make an impact on artists like Lisa by making a tax-deductible donation to APAFT at bit.ly/apaftpay.

In a partnership with Los Angeles theatre collective Artists at Play, APAFT is pleased to the announce the inaugural recipient of the APAFT & AAP Emerging Playwright Commission, UCSD Playwriting MFA student Ankita Raturi. “Ankita Raturi’s writing feels fresh in its depth, strength, and empathy. She is addressing difficult topics around colonialism and its legacy in today’s messy world, and we admire her ability to articulate and demonstrate these complexities in a very meaningful and theatrical way,” said AAP Producing Artistic Leader Marie-Reine Velez. “The APAFT Scholarship I’ve been awarded has really been such an asset to me, especially as a senior this year. I’ve been working on the college application process for musical theatre schools, and APAFT’s financial support has proved to be such a relief... The scholarship allowed me to get lessons to work on my technique, as well as choreograph and film two dances... I’ve already seen myself improve in my dance ability, and it has made me feel so much more secure in my applications. Without the money from APAFT, I’m not sure I’d feel as prepared and as confident in my submissions to colleges.” - Leilani Patao, 2021 APAFT Scholarship Recipient | Senior, Los Angeles County High School for the Arts. Help APA students like Leilani and donate to APAFT at bit.ly/apaftpay. Learn more about Leilani and our other APAFT scholarship recipients at bit.ly/apaftrecipients2021.

“I am so thankful towards APAFT, and all of the donors and supporters, because they have given me another chance to live my dream... APAFT has helped students at LACHSA reach their full potential, and it is only thanks to them that many of us AAPI students are able to continue practicing our art. With their support, I can continue doing what I love without having to worry about whether I can afford the lessons and training... Thank you APAFT for the amazing, life-changing work you do for the AAPI students of LACHSA!” - Emily "Millie" Liao, 2021 APAFT Scholarship Recipient | Junior, Los Angeles County High School for the Arts.
