Just another day of shelter intervention. And another day of cats, cats, cats!

Someone came in with a mama cat and her litter of five kittens. She also told us about another five cats roaming her neighborhood, several of whom are pregnant.

We helped get the mama and her kittens spayed/neutered and vaccinated, provided kitten food, and connected her with Luxe Paws for TNR support for the neighborhood cats.

If you have neighborhood cats that you or your neighbors are feeding, please help get them fixed so the cycle doesn’t continue. A few cats can quickly become a lot of cats—and a lot more kittens needing homes.

You can reach out to a local TNR organization for help or get free spay/neuter vouchers through the LA Animal Services Community Cat Program. *More info about CCP program in our stories*

Spay and neuter works. Let’s keep more kittens from being born on the streets!

Can you deny these two faces? betterTogether is almost halfway to $20,000 in fundraising for Race for the Rescues and WE NEED YOU TO REACH OUR GOAL!
Every day, families come to us because they love their pets but need a little help keeping them safe, healthy and at home. Your donations help us provide veterinary care, pet food, spay and neuter assistance, crates and other essential resources that keep beloved pets out of shelters and with the people who love them.
Race for the Rescues is October 10 at the Rose Bowl, and we need your help getting over the finish line! Join Team betterTogether, make a donation or share this post with your animal-loving friends.
No donation is too small. Or too big!
Together, we can preserve the human-animal bond and keep more families together.

Look at these two butterballs! Believe it or not, one of these cuties was thrown out of a car window. Lucky for him, Dolores saw the whole thing and came to his rescue.

She brought him home to meet her dog, Jake, and they became fast friends. But having two dogs wasn’t something Dolores had planned or budgeted for, and pet food is expensive.

Our program is helping with food from our pet pantry, and we’re also getting Billy (his new name!) neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Jake has a growth that needs to be removed, so we referred Dolores to the Sam Simon Foundation’s free clinic for help with his care.

We’re so happy that Billy now has a loving home to call his own and so thankful for everyone out there who opens their hearts and homes to the unwanted pets of Los Angeles. ❤️

Yesterday was a busy day at the shelter!

Sally is a beautiful Shepherd/Husky mix who has been her person’s best friend since she was a puppy. Unfortunately, their new landlord says no pets but how do you part with a member of the family?

Sally’s owner came to the shelter looking for options. Our program is helping them obtain an ESA letter so Sally can remain in her home, and she’ll also be getting spayed with an LA Animal Services voucher.

That’s one less dog entering the shelter and one more family staying together!

Shauna reached out to us for help with her dog, Nino. She had adopted him from the Palmdale shelter just a few weeks earlier and never expected to face a serious medical emergency so soon. When Nino began bleeding from several of his extremities, she knew he needed immediate veterinary care.

Shauna borrowed money from family members and rushed Nino to an emergency vet. Thankfully, his condition turned out to be minor, and he was soon on the road to recovery. But with her resources severely depleted, Shauna needed help with the cost of flea medication, vaccinations, and food.

We were able to help by providing pet food and flea medication (thanks to BISSELL Pet Foundation )and connecting her with low and no-cost vaccination providers.

This is what it looks like when a community comes together! Nino is out of the shelter because Shauna adopted him. He received the immediate care he needed because she and her family pooled their resources. And betterTogether was able to help them because of the generous donors and grantmakers who make our work possible.

Every part of this circle of support matters.

If stories like Nino’s move you and you would like to get involved, please donate or reach out to learn about volunteer opportunities. We truly are all in this together!
*And we just want to point out that Nino is an adorable Goldendoodle! No need to buy one from a breeder. Always adopt and don’t shop.

Another successful (albeit hot 🥵) spay and neuter clinic this weekend! Not only did we provide surgery, vaccines and microchips for 16 cats and 15 dogs, we also sent everyone home with flea medication thanks to BISSELL Pet Foundation. And with this heat wave, they all needed it! This clinic was possible through the generosity of and our partners at LAACF and 🙌🐶🐱

Happy National Dog Day! We are featuring our own personal pets and they were all adopted from LA Animal Services or local rescues. Celebrate your own pup today or head to your local shelter to adopt! Animals make life better and no one will love you more than a dog. And if you cant adopt, considering fostering a pet. Change your life and a shelter animal’s life!
