MORE THAN SEX-ED is an educational outreach initiative of Community Partners. Our goal is to work with groups in our community who already serve youth, in order to create and implement s*xuality education programs based on guidelines set by the S*xuality Information Education Council of the United States. Our community partners include faith organizations, home-school groups, and schools in the Lo

s Angeles Area. We can provide facilitator training to groups beyond LA via webinar. Contact us to see how we can tailor a program to fit your needs.

Every religion in the world has teachings about our physical bodies, about loving relationships, about children and families. Some celebrate the sacredness of these elements of the human experience, but too many are used to shame, demonize, and impose power and control on others. What were your religious and spiritual influences in childhood, as you came of age, and as an adult? How did these impact your understanding of s*xuality? How can we help others navigate their own journeys away from fear and oppression, and towards joy, fulfillment, and liberation?

This month we will reflect on how religious or spiritual influences may impact the way we understand s*xuality and ourselves today: no one will try to convert you to anything. Everyone is welcome!

Tomorrow is International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia. This date is observed annually on May 17 to raise awareness, build solidarity, and resist the violence, stigma, and discrimination experienced by people of all diverse s*xual orientations, gender identities or expressions, and s*x characteristics.

It was on this date in 1990 that the World Health Organization finally made the decision to declassify homos*xuality as a mental disorder.

What are you doing to support the rights of LGBTQIA+ people?

📣 Calling all S*x-Nerds! 📣 Join us this Thursday, April 16th from 5:30-7:00 pm PT on Zoom for learning, community, and conversation in honor of S*xually Transmissible Infection Awareness Month! 🦠

First time? Fill out the interest survey (link in comments) to receive the Zoom link by email.

S*x education, at its most basic level, should give people information about health risks and harm-reduction, and we know that plenty of young people don’t even receive that. But we also know that comprehensive and inclusive s*x-ed should cover so much MORE THAN just the condom-on-the-banana (pun intended). Educators and researchers know that negative attitudes about s*xually transmissible infections (STIs) have the potential to do more harm than the infections themselves, because they lead people to avoid conversations, refuse to use barrier methods, and skip necessary medical care. Let’s brush up on our medical knowledge of s*xual health needs, and discuss how we can share this information with others in a way that respects autonomy and removes guilt, shame, and embarrassment.

S*x Nerds is a semi-monthly opportunity to connect with fellow enthusiasts of positive, inclusive, and affirming s*xuality education. We always begin with introductions and checking-in; topics and guest speakers vary, but questions and discussion are always welcome; and participants are always invited to share what they’re working on, promoting, or nerding-out about right now. Hope to see you there! 🤓
