“A program designed to reduce poverty with a guaranteed income, providing $500 monthly checks for a year, is now seeking applicants.

Applicants must be single parents or guardians with children, and their household must be between 100% and 200% of the federal poverty level.

In Tacoma, about 40% of households meet those income levels, according to United Way of Pierce County, one of the partners of the guaranteed income project. They hope to get between 750 and 1,000 applications.”

“As part of the community's efforts to help those in need with a hand up, the Fort Smith United Way donated $2,500 to the Single Parent Scholarship Fund.

The money will be used to sign 100 Single Parent Scholarship Fund families up for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. The program sends children under the age of 5 a book a month until they reach the age of 5.”

Be on the lookout for your next Child Tax Credit payment! It will arrive either as a check or direct deposit depending on which you used when filing your 2020 taxes.

The child and dependent care tax credit offers working parents a boost at tax time to help cover the cost of care for kids under 13 or adult dependents.

The American Rescue Plan raised the eligible costs for 2021 from $3,000 to $8,000 per dependent, capped at $16,000.

This year, families may receive up to 50% of those expenses as a refundable credit, depending on income.
