It's Latin Heritage Month, and we're celebrating our Jewish and Latin heritages with our friends at Jewtina y Co.

For Jon Cohen, Keshet Director of Community Mobilization and board member at Jewtina y Co., the intersections of his identity are exactly why he's so passionate about his advocacy work:

"Growing up gay, Mexican, and Jewish in South Florida, I often saw parts of my identity reflected in the communities around me, but almost never all of my identities in one place. Organizing became a way for me to bring together the different parts of my identity and the different communities I was part of for a cause bigger than myself or any one group. I found that I could build bridges and spaces where others could also show up with multiple identities in ways that strengthen and empower one another.

An area outside of Keshet where this is showing up is through my experiences with Jewtina y Co. A Jewish and Latinx organization building community and resilience for Latin Jews in Jewish spaces and beyond. I see the ways they are engaging in intersectional community building, and I am proud to be part of their advisory board, where I can bring my additional identities and experiences."

DENVER, we’re coming to the Mile High City on October 18th⛰️ Together, We Rise is a baking and memory workshop that honors how Latin and Jewish traditions celebrate and remember our ancestors through food and story, anchored by a communal Pan de Muerto bake, a Jewish Food Society and Cocina Libre recipe analysis, and storytelling from Honduran Chef Edwin Sandoval of XATRUCHO . We can't wait to come together, learn, connect, and break bread together!
