The state legislature is currently considering a bill that will have a big impact on coaching in California: AB 1626.

The Play Equity Fund recently welcomed to the LA84 campus for an intensive three-day training with members of the Play Equity Coalition Los Angeles and the Nike Future of Youth Sports Community of Practice.

Together, participants learned grassroots organizing strategies and tactics, working through specific examples of how we can advocate and effect system change within youth sports and government.

Coaches need to be equipped to meet our youth where they’re at.

We are proud to co-sponsor AB 1626 which will mandate mental health training for coaches in the state of California. Thank you to for authoring this important legislation and to our partners who joined us in Sacramento today as the bill passed through the Arts, Entertainment, Sports, and Tourism Committee.

At the 2026 Play Equity Summit, we were proud to announce the launch of The MOVE Fund—a $30 million national initiative expanding access to sports, play, and movement for young people.

The Play Equity Fund serves as the grant administrator, and provides capacity-building support for the MOVE Fund.

Last October, California took a major step forward by passing AB 749, the Youth Sports for All Act.
