Dearest reparationists, $1.8 billion for insurrectionists. On top of $1.2 billion per day for the war in Iran. Research tells us that most of us do not really know how much a billion is. For context, 1 million seconds is about 11 days and 1 billion seconds is about 32 years. So please, never never never never for the idea that the US government doesn't have the money to meet its goals.
Our goal is, of course, federal reparations. In the meantime, we want to see reparations at every level: personal, institutional, municipal and state. If there are no line items for reparations, land tax and mutual aid in your bank accounts, do you really care about them? My republican father would say no. He said, " Little one if you want to know what you care about, look in your checkbook." He didn't know much about politics but he understood a budget.
For slavery and the world that slavery created, we cannot ever make it right but it should not stop us from trying. Reparations now!
