๐ŸŒบ Pride month is coming to an end, right after mental health awareness month. Itโ€™s a good time to reflect on the intersection of LGBTQ+ experiences and mental health.

๐ŸŒบ LGBTQ+ mental health is often affected by discrimination, stigma, and other adverse experiences, contributing to alarming mental health statistics found among the LGBTQ+ community.

๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ As we move forward, letโ€™s commit to actively listening to our LGBTQIA+ community, understanding their unique mental health challenges, and taking concrete steps to provide support. This includes creating safe spaces, fostering a culture of acceptance, and advocating for improved access to mental health resources tailored to the specific needs of LGBTQ+ individuals. Together, we can make a positive impact and work towards a future where everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, can thrive.

Kiley Ames, an artist living in Los Angeles and Oakland, creates work that explores the fragmented nature of reality. With degrees from UCLA, Art Center College of Design, and the New York Academy of Art, Kileyโ€™s artistic prowess shines through her diverse experiences, myriad grants, and global residencies in Beijing, Shanghai, and Leipzig, Germany. In addition to her own studio practice, she was a freelancer at Annie Leibovitz Studio for almost ten years.

At the heart of Kileyโ€™s vibrant creations lies a deeply personal narrative. Her art is not just a visual spectacle but a profound way for her to make sense of the fragmented contradictions of her mind. Each stroke is a dialogue reflecting the complex interplay between unity and disparity. As Kiley states, โ€œThere is no beginning or end with these fragmentations; there is just interaction and exchange.โ€

KOLA DPW is the pseudonym of Los Angeles-based artist Erick Thomas, created in response to what he saw during his time as a product designer for the fashion industry.

While working overseas, he witnessed firsthand the staggering volume of product, waste, and pollution caused by mass-production factory manufacturing. His art became a commentary on global consumerismโ€™s effect on our lives, the product culture it promotes, and our relationship with the natural world.

Travis Flack is a multidisciplinary artist based in Los Angeles. His work typically starts with photography, using various image manipulation methods to create revised histories through intervention and alteration.

When heโ€™s not making a mess of prints, his love of the medium drives him to explore a wide range of subjects, from the natural world to interpersonal relationships. Heโ€™s unafraid to delve into the darker aspects of life, finding beauty even in the bleakest of moments.

No matter where youโ€™re at in life, taking care of your mental health is important! You donโ€™t have to have a diagnosis in order to take steps to protect your mental health. Having a disorder or struggling with mental health in some capacity doesnโ€™t mean that youโ€™ve failed in any way.

Via & Motherโ€™s Day is a special day to celebrate the mothers in our lives and give back to them. ๐Ÿ’

But for many people who maybe are grieving the loss of their mom or have strained relationships with their mom, Motherโ€™s Day can be a difficult holiday that brings painful feelings.

If you are struggling with difficult emotions related to Motherโ€™s Day, here are some ideas on how to cope:

๐ŸŒผ Give yourself permission to feel what youโ€™re feeling: notice when you tell yourself how you โ€œshouldโ€ feel. Try to replace those thoughts with acceptance of your feelings as they come.

๐ŸŒผ Express gratitude: motherhood comes in various shapes and forms. Use this day as an opportunity to thank the maternal figures and caregivers who have made a positive impact on your life.

๐ŸŒผ Decide how *you* want to spend this day: if youโ€™re dreading this holiday, you have the right to treat it like any other Sunday. You could take a break from social media, marathon your favorite comfort show, and forget what day it is. You could also share this day with a supportive friend and tell them what youโ€™re going through. You get to decide what feels right for you.

๐Ÿ™ Remember, itโ€™s completely okay to have complex feelings related to Motherโ€™s Day.
