Zimbabwe Run & Fair for Orphans

Couldn't be more proud of Ellen Clark fondly known as the "Zim Lady" for leading the Zimbabwe Run and Fair (ZimRun), an event that occurs in Mountain View, California, USA and has benefited Makumbi Orphanage in Zimbabwe for the past 18 years. Because of the ZimRun, termite-ridden cottages at Makumbi orphanage were renovated in 2015. Because of the ZimRun, in 2016, plumbing renovation was done at Makumbi orphanage for the leaky pipes that had been "fixed" with rubber bands, old plumbing pipes that were spewing rust and sludge, and plugged pipes that were contaminating water. Because of the ZimRun, in 2014, a halfway cottage for girls aging out of the orphanage was built at Makumbi orphanage and three girls were sent to college. The list goes on and on of what has been achieved in the past 18 years. Thanks to Ellen for rallying volunteers to give their time and services, while ensuring every penny goes to the fundraising goal.

Hello Everyone! I have many school gigs coming up but here are some that are open to the public: Feb. 22 at Red Rock Coffee Shop at 201 Castro Street in Mountain View. I'll be doing my Man Gave Names to the Animals poetry slam at about 7 p.m. I'm at Linden Tree Books on March 5 at 11:30 a.m. Linden Tree is on State Street in Los Altos. I'm at the Los Altos Public Library on San Antonio Rd. at 4 p.m. on March 9 with all my animal mascots for African folk tales and more poetry slams. If you are in the neighborhood stop on by!

Hello Everyone! It's coming up-- The 17th Annual Run for Zimbabwe Orphans and Fair on Sunday March 20, 2016 at St. Joseph School, 1120 Miramonte Ave. Mountain View. It's going to be a real blast! This year, it's all about funding the plumbing at the orphanage, Makumbi Children's Home, and helping, Twiza the giraffe, chase away all those water-borne germs. Five (5) Course records were set, among them: Kela Mavhera, Grade 7, Age 12, from Southern California, 5:45 minutes for the mile.
