Remembering Dick Henning

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Dick Henning on February 4.

Dick was a true community icon whose impact on Los Altos will be felt for generations. As a longtime Foothill College Dean, the founder of the Celebrity Forum speaker series, and a founder of the Los Altos Mountain View Community Foundation, he brought people together through ideas, education, and civic engagement.

Dick’s dedication to service extended throughout the Los Altos community and the Los Altos Chamber of Commerce, where he served 11 years on the board of directors and helped strengthen countless local initiatives.

Thirty years ago, then Chamber President Ginny Lear appointed a committee of Marie Singer, Mary Prochnow, and Dick Henning to create what was originally envisioned as a β€œred bow tie award.” That vision became the Walter Singer Award, the Chamber’s most prestigious honor, recognizing extraordinary leadership and service in our community.

In 2023, the Chamber was proud to honor Dick with the 30th Anniversary Singer Legacy Award, a fitting tribute to someone who helped create this enduring tradition.

We are grateful for Dick’s lasting legacy and the remarkable example he set through a lifetime of service.

The produce business starts early β€” really early. Before sunrise, the team at DeMartini Orchard is already stocking the freshest fruits, vegetables, and herbs for Los Altos kitchens.

For more than 30 years, this family-owned farmstand has been a place where neighbors connect, recipes are shared, and seasonal food brings people together. Their commitment to quality, sustainability, and community is what makes them a true District Diamond β€” polished by decades of local love.

Shop local. Eat well. Support the gems that make Los Altos home.
