Young people today grow up in a world that lives in their pocket. Unfortunately, that works both ways.
They can also live in someone else's pocket.
Every notification, message, and follow request opens a door. Most are harmless. Some are not. Predators no longer need to lurk in shadows or on street corners. They reach directly into bedrooms, schools, and quiet moments through apps that look completely normal. Grooming shows up as attention, validation, friendship.
And vulnerability doesn’t come from bad decisions alone. It comes from isolation, curiosity, loneliness, and the very normal need to be seen and understood. Social magnifies all of it. It rewards extreme exposure and obliterates safeguards. And parents can't keep up.
A young person can go from a simple conversation to a dangerous situation in a matter of hours, not days. And it happens silently. Understanding vulnerability today means understanding access. Constant, unfiltered, and often unsupervised access.
That’s the reality. But remember: awareness changes outcomes. Be present, pay attention, have conversations that never end.
The same technology that creates risk can also help us protect them, if we choose to use it that way. At Finding Kids, we work alongside law enforcement and partners to assess risk factors, support investigations, and help families understand what may be happening behind the scenes.
If a child is missing, call 911 immediately.
Then consider sharing our information with the family so additional support can be put in place.
Let's find every one.
