Experimenting with reducing waste in multicolor prints. By purging into infill and lowering the purge amount, this print cut waste by about 50% at the expense of some purge color showing through, but since it's a camo print anyway, it's not really noticeable.

This week's lesson is on one of the challenges of multi-color printing: purge waste. In order to print multiple colors with a single nozzle, filaments must be swapped out at each layer. Each swap requires purging the main line of old filament. The prints are cool, but the bin in the back shows how much filament was purged or used in prime towers, effectively wasted. For the white sprinkles on the donut icing, less than 2g of filament was used while over 12g was purged. There are techniques to reduce the amount of waste such as infill printing. There are also filament recycling options.
