For nearly seven decades, Charles “Charlie” Gonzales has been a beloved part of Los Alamos. After moving here with his family in 1957 at age five, Charlie grew up attending local schools, playing sports, and working in the family’s Los Alamos Meat Locker. In 1978, he opened Charlie’s Restaurant, which is now Los Alamos’ longest continuously operating business.
Beyond his businesses, Charlie has devoted countless years to the community, serving six terms as president of the Los Alamos Valley Men’s Club, coaching youth sports, helping bring a gymnasium to the school, serving on the Cemetery and Water Boards, and helping build Ferrini Park, along with his brother Henry.
His greatest pride is his three daughters, who grew up working in the family businesses, with two continuing the family tradition at Charlie’s Restaurant. Charlie is grateful to the employees and community who have supported him throughout the years. He says it best:
“I love this town and the people who have become family.”
He is honored to be selected as this year’s Los Alamos Valley Men’s Club Grand Marshal.
