SOD Club The official support group of the Alcorn State University “Sounds of Dyn-O-Mite” Marching Band.

The SOD Club is an organization of committed individuals who have united for the sole purpose of supporting the general activities of the Alcorn State University Band program. We provide support to the current Alcorn State University Marching, Pep, Concert and Jazz bands as well as the ASU Symphonic and Chamber Ensembles. This support includes, but is not limited to, volunteering for various functions, fund raising, solicitation of monetary contributions from any person(s) and/or businesses that wish to support the vision, mission, exposure, and longevity of the Alcorn State University Band program. In addition, the SOD Club provides support to assist in the social and academic advancements of the current student-musicians. All of our activities demonstrate our organizations’ full support of the Director of Bands, his staff, and Alcorn State University as a whole. The three levels of membership within the SOD Club are:

• Purple Level $50.00
• Gold Level $75.00
• Purple & Gold Level $100.00

Taking it back to 1970 for this week’s ! 💜💛

Before the Braves called Jack Spinks – Marino Casem Stadium home, the Sounds of Dyn-O-Mite were bringing the heat and setting the standard at historic Henderson Stadium. This week’s photo captures the band in their element, executing a flawless field show on the turf in 1970.

Henderson Stadium was the true heartbeat of Braves football for 67 years. Originally opening in 1925, it was proudly named in honor of O.T. Henderson, Alcorn State’s very first football coach. Until it was discontinued as the primary home stadium in 1992, its field was hallowed ground for generations of iconic halftime performances and undeniable HBCU band pageantry.

Five decades of elegance, glamour, and unmatched precision on one field! For the World Renowned Golden Girls 50th Anniversary halftime performance in 2018, dancers spanning generations united to deliver a halftime show for the history books.

They say everything that glitters certainly isn't gold, but when it shines this brightly, that's a GG! From the trailblazers who established the standard to the lines that carried the torch into a new era, this historic 2018 performance was a powerful testament to sisterhood, tradition, and generations of excellence.

True excellence doesn't fade—it inspires every generation that follows. The 1986 Alcorn State University Sounds of Dyn-O-Mite Marching Band proved what it means to set the gold standard in HBCU band culture.

Led by iconic Head Director of Bands Samuel S. Griffin and Band Director James Winters—alongside Assistant Directors Selwyn Reed and Rudolph Waters—this legendary unit built a foundation of power and precision that spans generations. From the command of Drum Majors Leroy Merriweather, Michael Gee, and Travon Neal to the breathtaking artistry of the World Renowned Golden Girls, Lady Purple Flashers, and feature twirler Riley Jones, the 1986 edition created a blueprint of excellence that still echoes across the field today.
