Annie Ruth Mote was the first of five children born to Joseph Fredrick Mote and Docia Ollie Taylor. She was born in Spring Valley and graduated from Lorena High School and was a member of the Lorena Methodist Church. She and John R. Hunter were married July 5, 1923 in Waco. John R. had a farm in Spring Valley and ran a store for many years. They had one child, Patsy Ruth.

Sybil Hurst
December 29, 1934 - March 21, 2015

Sybil Hurst, of Lorena, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2015, at her residence.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 23, at First Baptist Church of Lorena with Pastor Levi Price officiating. Burial will follow at Lorena Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, March 22, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room.

Sybil was born December 29, 1934, in Vernon, Texas to William and Aileene Townsend. She taught in Waco for ten years and in the Richardson I.S.D. for 30 years.

Sybil was a member of First Baptist Richardson, First Baptist Plano and currently First Baptist Lorena in Lorena. She enjoyed her family, friends, teaching, gardening and reading. She devoted much of her time and energy serving others.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Patricia White.

She is survived by her husband, Don Hurst, Lorena, TX; one daughter, Rachel McGinnis and husband Kirk of Richardson, TX; two grandchildren, Jackson and Madison McGinnis; one sister, Jean Hite of Vernon, TX; one brother, Bill Townsend of Fairaview, TX; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Lorena, Visiting Angels of Temple, or Bluebonnet Hospice. The family invites you to leave a message or memory in our "Memorial Guestbook" at www.WHBfamily.com.

Melba Joyce Lankford, 67, of Bruceville, passed away Saturday, June 8, 2013, at her residence. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m., Tuesday, June 11, at Lorena Cemetery with the Rev. Gary Parker officiating.

Melba was born in Waco, Texas, to the late George Melborne Berry and Margaret Pauline Wood Barry. She was a homemaker and loved fishing and the outdoors.

She was preceded in death by a son, David Bell; and brothers, Tommy Weaver and Johnny Barry.

Survivors include her husband, Jimmy Lankford; daughters, Melissa Smith, Cindy Bell, and Deborah DeLaRosa; sons, John Henry Gervais and Tommy Bell; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Noma Biles; brother, Roger Barry; and nieces and nephews.

Tom C. Henson, 92, of Waco, passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at a Waco hospital. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, at OakCrest Funeral Home, with burial in Lorena Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, at OakCrest Funeral Home in Waco.

Tom was born in Lorena, Texas, to the late Zeb C. and Essie Ola (Hutchinson) Henson. Tom served his country proudly as one of the Greatest Generation. He fought in North Africa and Italy with the U.S. Army in the 36th Division, 143rd Infantry Regiment during World War II. Tom lost his hand while serving his country. He was an avid Texas Rangers fan, loved his family, his country and his two cats. He was a member of the D. A. V. Chapter 3 and V.F.W. Post #6008. He worked as an adjudicator at the V.A. Regional Office in Waco.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathy Hummer and husband, Jerry; five brothers; and four sisters.

Tom is survived by his wife, Kathryn; son, Tom C. Henson and wife, Mickie, of Corpus Christi; stepson, Tony Newburey, of Germany; grandchildren: Chris Henson, Corey Buckner, Kristy Kelley and Melissa Adams; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Jim Henson and wife, Doris and Weldon Henson and wife, Frieda, both of Robinson; sisters-in-law, Lucy and Mary Henson; and many nieces, nephews and beloved friends.
