Jordan James Pfuntner, 88, passed away June 27, 2013, after suffering a stroke. A funeral mass will be 10a.m. on July 2, at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 9820 Chapel Road. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. July 1 at Connally-Compton Funeral Home, 4400 W. Waco Dr.

Jordan was born on May 7, 1925, in Akron, Ohio and raised in Coudersport, Pa., on a dairy farm. He was an avid hunter as a youth, and at the age of 18 he became a United States Marine who served in the Pacific in the Second World War. After the war he married his beloved Marjorie in Olean, N.Y., in February of 1946, and raised a family of nine children. A graduate of St. Bonaventure University and an entrepreneur, he was trained as a chemical engineer and spent his business career in various enterprises related to that field. Jordan and Marjorie moved to Texas in 1978 where Jordan has been a Waco-area resident for the past 35 years.

Reflecting his deep and abiding faith and his strong desire to help others, in 1980 Jordan became one of the first men ordained as a deacon in the Diocese of Austin. Marjorie predeceased Jordan in May of 2002.

A proud Marine, an enterprising businessman, an extraordinarily devoted husband and loving father, a kind and supportive deacon who touched many, many lives, and a disciple of Christ, Deacon Jordan passed away in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his children, and can now be found in his Father's house (John 14:2).

Earl D. Golding, of McGregor, passed away Sunday, Dec. 23, 2007, at Westview Manor. Services will be 3:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with the Rev. Danny Niedecken officiating. Burial will follow at Lorena Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home.

Earl was born in Temple, Texas, to the late Otis Earl Golding and Rebecca Stanford Golding. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Lorena. Earl Golding's popularity covering Central Texas' busy hunting and fishing scene for the Waco Tribune-Herald helped spawn the first competitive bass-fishing tournament in Texas. It was a success the first year and it was enlarged the next year as the (Texas) State Bass Tournament. He was inducted into the Texas State Bass Tournament Hall of Fame in 1998. Known for his engaging personality, down-home writing style and self-effacing humor, Golding was a Lorena native who began his career as a sportswriter at the Tribune-Herald in 1949. Colleagues say Golding's real genius as a journalist was connecting with others, something he acknowledged late in life.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Jane Golding; brother, Jack Golding; brother-in-law, Roy Purczinsky; nephew, Jack E. Golding; and great-nephews, Christopher Jones and Jeffrey Jones.

He is survived by sister, Joan Purczinsky; sister-in-law, Stella Golding; nephews, Chuck Purczinsky and wife, Connie, Dave Purczinsky and wife, Dana, and Jonathan Golding and wife, Angie; niece, Laurie Jones; and great-nieces and nephews, Hallie, Maggie, Gus, Zach, Levi, Nathan, Micah, Josh, and Luke and wife, Becca.
