Hidalgo County 4-H is the primary youth organization located in the boot heel of New Mexico. What empowers the Hidalgo County 4-H program to be more than just your average youth organization is the collaboration, teamwork, and strong partnerships with the other counties in the Southwest District and in the State of New Mexico. Being part of the Southwest District permits the agents to share ideas
and program support. District wide events bring kids from many different backgrounds and experiences together to develop leadership, citizenship and life learning opportunities. Structured competition allows youth to demonstrate mastery in their project areas. The strong comradely and cohesiveness among agents fosters a community of belonging and inclusion to youth members. The Southwest District is one of four 4-H districts that make up the New Mexico State 4-H program. These Districts tie all 33 counties together and bring a larger since of community to the overall 4-H program. Our state is part of the National 4-H Council tying New Mexico with all 50 states and the programs in Puerto Rico together. With so many broad and diverse 4-H programs, the Hidalgo County 4-H program is able to draw from many perspectives and utilizes program ideas and materials to bring a life changing experience to the youth.
