United Way of Greater Lorain County Join us at uwloraincounty.org, , 440-277-6530. The problems that most people say can't be solved. WE go looking for them. We are the game changers.

We lead community transformation, creating a better life for all, by connecting community partners through collective impact in health, education, and financial stability. In unforgiving cities, overlooked townships, and seemingly docile suburbs. We find every dollar we can to address them. But we are more than the fundraisers. United Way fights for the health, education, and financial stability of low-income working families who need our help in Greater Lorain County. We have one life. To live better we must Live United. Join the fight at uwloraincounty.org or by calling 440-277-6530.

📣 Now is the time to come together and help shape what comes next!

We invite you to attend Lorain County Transit’s public hearing on the future of ViaLC’s service to share your perspective, hear from others, and be part of the conversation about the future of public transportation in Lorain County.

Let’s go beyond sharing our frustrations and focus on solutions. What sustainable funding options should be explored? What commitments are needed from our elected officials? How can we ensure Lorain County residents have reliable transportation now and in the future?

Did you know?

Our Collect Sort Deliver initiative drives community impact by making high need items accessible to our neighbors in Lorain County.

In partnership with the Women's Fund and their Change the Cycle program, we have distributed over 850,000 pieces of period product in the last 5 years. This takes funding, coordination, and lots of volunteer hours!

In turn, we make the experience fun by hosting special events where our Donoteers (those who give AND volunteer with United Way) come together over cocktails/mocktails and charcuterie to learn more about the needs of community and make a big impact. The women pictured here packed over 250 bags with period products, stickers, and handwritten notes of encouragement, for those who will be receiving the product.

Thanks to a generous sponsorship from Brightspeed, the snacks and drinks are covered so that every dollar goes right back in to resources for Lorain County residents.

Ohio has a severe shortage of affordable housing because low-wage jobs and rising rents put housing out of reach for too many residents.

Did you know?
➡Ohio renters need to earn at least $23.82/hour to afford a basic 2BR apartment;
➡2 BR rents have increased 23% in Ohio between 2021 and 2026;
➡Over 1 million Ohioans now live in households that spend over half their income on rent or mortgage.

Our team traveled to the State House with representatives from the Elyria YWCA and Leadership Lorain County to join over 100 other housing advocates from across the state for the COHHIO (Coalition on Homelessness and Housing in Ohio) Advocacy Day. Our Lorain County team met with legislative aids from Rep. Joe Miller and Rep. Gayle Manning’s offices and with staff from Senate District 13 to encourage support on a few measures that could offer relief.

We asked for safeguarding of the Ohio Housing Trust Fund which provides up to $65M per year for housing in Ohio, support of legislation that would waive fees so Ohioans can get the documents and ID they need to escape homelessness and regain stability, passing Senate Bill 83 (Reynolds & Craig), a bipartisan bill that would allow for the suppression of eviction records at the time of filing and only allow eviction records to be released if and when an actual eviction has occurred, and support of House Bill 765, which makes important modifications to the Single Family Tax Credit to help create more affordable home ownership opportunities for more Ohioans.

We appreciate those who keep an eye on the legislation that most affects our Lorain County neighbors. For more information and to stay up to date, sign up for our Advocacy email blast at www.uwloraincounty.org/public-policy-advocacy
