LCCAA CEO Shauna Matelski, Ed.D., attended the Ohio Community Development Corporation Association’s Regional Member Retreat to meet with legislators and other advocates from northeast Ohio.

The retreat focused on connection and narrative practice while attendees discussed the CDC’s work in low to moderate income communities and the need for stable, diversified funding to sustain it.

Participants discussed the 2027 state budget cycle and the potential short- and long-term impacts on the work.

Dr. Matelski is pictured speaking to Rep. Joe Miller along with El Centro Executive Director Victor Leandry. She also spoke with Rep. Gayle Manning along with Matt Kusznir, Director of Building, Housing and Planning for the City of Lorain.

Rep. Kellie Deeter and a member of Sen. Jon Husted’s staff were also in attendance.

Did you know? You can apply for the Percentage of Income Payment Plan (PIPP) anytime of the year?

Under PIPP, your utility bills are reduced to a percentage of your income allowing you to better manage your household budget and avoid disconnection notices and crisis situations.

If you make your PIPP payments on time and in full, you can also erase arrearages.

Learn more about the benefits of PIPP and start your application online: https://www.lccaa.net/pipp/

One of our bilingual classrooms at Hopkins Locke visited the Lorain Bilingual Academic School to learn more about kindergarten.

The children visited a classroom, learned about the daily routine and even saw a school bus.

They thoroughly enjoyed every moment!

Moments like this are the norm in our program. Prepare your child for kindergarten with Head Start. Start the enrollment process by visiting www.lccaaforms.net.

One group of Griswold students ended their school year with a trip to the Elyria Township Fire Station.

Not surprisingly, the visit was a big hit with children and grownups alike!

LCCAA Head Start loves connecting to the resources in our community. Firefighters are among our favorites.

We are now enrolling for fall! Start the process for your child by visiting www.lccaaforms.net.

One of the benefits of our school-based classrooms is exposing our Head Start students to activities of the upper grades.

Wellington High School members of the Future Farmers of America brought their equipment and livestock to Westwood Elementary to show off their expertise in agriculture.

The Wellington Head Start students had a great time learning about the animals and even got to pet some!

This is just one example of a unique experience available with LCCAA Head Start. Start the enrollment process for your child by visiting www.lccaaforms.net.

Toward the end of the school year, one Griswold Head Start classroom read “Not a Box” by Antoinette Portis.

The book celebrates imagination and creative thinking by showing how a box can become many different things: a race car, a mountain, a robot and more!

Teachers used the book to encourage children to see everyday objects in creative ways and work together to make their own creations in the classroom.

The combination of book and activity is foundational in Head Start classrooms. In particular, this book supports creativity, problem-solving, pretend play and language development while reminding adults how important imaginative play is for children.

Look for this book – and many others – at your local library this summer. Join us in the classroom this fall. Start the enrollment process by visiting www.lccaaforms.net.

LCCAA’s Produce Center is in need of volunteers to assist with sorting and distributing items.

Volunteers would help unload deliveries, sort items onto shelves and into refrigerators and freezers, and carry boxes from the center to client vehicles.

Help is needed on Tuesdays to unload the truck and on Wednesdays and Thursdays to distribute boxes.

This is a great opportunity for community service. Anyone under 18 must have written permission from a parent or guardian. Volunteers will be asked to lift approximately 20 pounds multiple times.
