St. Vladimir's Orthodox Church Sunday Divine Liturgy is at 10 A.M. on the
1st & 3rd and 4th Sunday, each month. Services are conducted in English. The St. Burial Fees do apply.

570-928-8909 We are located in the village of Lopez, Pennsylvania in the midst of the “Endless Mountains,” so-called because as many as seven mountain ranges converge here in north central and northeast Pennsylvania, the major ones being the Appalachians (Allegheny’s) and the Catskills (Poconos). Two of the most beautiful parks in the East are within 20 miles of Lopez, World’s End State Park and Rickett's Glen State Park. Blessed and joyous Feast!

In the Orthodox Church, the Nativity of the Theotokos (celebrated on September 8th) is the first great feast of the Liturgical Church Year, joyfully commemorating the birth of the Virgin Mary, the Mother of God.

According to tradition, Sts. Joachim and Anna, who had been childless for many years, were blessed by God with the miraculous gift of a daughter in their old age. The birth of Mary was not simply a family joy but a turning point in salvation history: she was born to become the living temple of God, the one who would freely give her “yes” to bring Christ into the world.

The feast is one of hope and new beginnings. Just as the Church year begins with the joy of Mary’s birth, we are reminded that God is always at work bringing life, renewal, and salvation. Her nativity is the dawn of our redemption, preparing the way for Christ, the Light of the world.
