When a person trusts by faith the Lord Jesus Christ to save them from their sin debt, their life will have been exchanged - meaning that their life, their story, their identity have now become enveloped by Christ’s Life, Story & Identity. They will not be their own. Christ’s Life is now their life!

And because this exchange takes visible shape within a Christian, our character, or “what we put on & wear”, will be different than it was before our salvation…all because of Jesus & His Life & Character that we find enveloped around & within us.

The first place where this new character we’ve received in Christ should be visible should be in the home; it should be within our family relationships.

In this Sunday’s message, we’re going to go over this new character as it pertains to “wearing it” as husband & wife. C’mon out for Part 1 of “What to Wear Around the House” & let’s find out together how our God would have us to interact with each other within the Marriage Covenant💞

LAST WEEK, we saw that our “Core Clothing in Christ” was, in fact, our NEW IDENTITY as ones being IN CHRIST! In verses 12-14, the Apostle Paul explained to us just what our new identity, our new story, or new Life in Jesus Christ should actually look like.

THIS WEEK, Paul explains to us on what it means to wear our new wardrobe ”in style”.

In Colossians 3:15-17, we’ll see how our new identity in Christ is governed by, or has the aesthetic of, an exchanged life with the Lord Jesus. Paul gives us 3 key factors of “dressing well” as believers & followers of Christ: His Peace, His Word, and His Name.

As a Christian, we don’t follow trends that will dishonor our God, but we do have style, and it’s one that operates on a deeper level. As a Christian, our life is “hid with Christ in God” (Colossians 3:3). Being hid means that we live out the character of Christ from a place of security, not a place of weakness. We are secure in Him & that’s our starting point.

That security gives us the opportunity to boldly display character traits of the Savior within us, so being “hid with Christ in God” also means we have a new identity: “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)

Christian, have you embraced your new identity? This Sunday, we’ll look at essential traits that describe our new identity. We’ll call them, “Our Core Clothing in Christ”.

As we navigate through Colossians chapter 3, Paul begins to be more intense in trying to persuade through his instruction on putting on this new wardrobe of a sanctified life & on living the exchanged life in Christ. He uses the word, “mortify”, in vs5: “Mortify therefore your members”. Strong language! Mortify means to subdue; to deaden; to kill.

Hence the title of our next message: “Kill or be Killed”. Christian, it’s that serious. God has not only called us to live in His character, but He’s equipped us with a vital union “IN CHRIST”. If we don’t effectively seek to “kill” our desires that war against the flesh through our union with Him, our communion with God will deaden & we’ll wear the wrong character…the wrong wardrobe.
