Why do our southern Indiana communities need a land bank? Here's the honest answer: In rural areas like ours, there are many properties that have become deteriorated or abandoned.

The URLB buys or is donated these vacant, abandoned, and deteriorated properties, preparing them (through demolition, repairs, etc.) for redevelopment in the community.

As a nonprofit, we regularly partner with other nonprofits in the community. One example is our work with the French Lick Redevelopment Commission in Orange County. Through this partnership, we are working to prepare and donate one of our properties to them so that it can be added to a neighboring park for all to enjoy.

FACT: We take on vacant, abandoned, and deteriorated properties in urban and in rural areas, repurposing them for community benefit.

FACT: We are focused on selling to qualified buyers who align with our mission rather than making a profit or selling to the highest bidder.

FACT: We do not work to compete with investors/real estate entities. Instead, we acquire properties that private real estate agents and developers have often already rejected and not deemed profitable.
