You may have seen some of our dedicated MCARC members helping direct traffic and assist motorists with parking during the 6th Annual Hindostan Days community festival — and those radios definitely came in handy!

We also had the chance to put amateur radio on display with a Parks on the Air (POTA) station set up at our booth. During the event, we made more than 60 radio contacts with operators across the country.

Hindostan Falls is a great catch for amateur radio operators participating in Parks on the Air and working to contact different parks throughout the United States. So, in a way, the excitement surrounding Hindostan Days reached well beyond Martin County this year!

Here are a few photos from our Parks on the Air activation at Hindostan Falls. 📻🇺🇸

We went 4 for 4 on successful license testing during our June Testing Session!

Congratulations to our 1 new Technician licensee, who received a free radio from the club, and to the 3 operators who upgraded from Technician to General Class.

If you’re interested in amateur radio and would like advice on resources to help you study for your basic Technician license — and receive your free radio after successfully licensing — drop an “Interested” comment below and we’ll reach out to you on Messenger.

A big thank-you to the Martin County EMA and the Volunteer Examiners who helped make this testing session possible.

The Martin County Amateur Radio Club participated in the annual ARRL Summer Field Day this past weekend at Martin State Forest.

Club members made hundreds of radio contacts around the world using field-deployed radio stations, homemade antennas, and commercially available antennas Field Day is more than just a fun event — it is an important exercise that helps amateur radio operators prepare to deploy and communicate during emergencies, especially when power, cell service, internet, and other communication grids are down.

Martin State Forest was the perfect venue for this year’s event. Despite plenty of rain, there was also plenty of fun, teamwork, and successful radio operation.

We are looking for more members to help build and operate our stations for Winter Field Day. Whether you are an experienced amateur radio operator or simply interested in learning more, we would love to have you join us.

The Martin County Amateur Radio Club meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at the Martin County EMA building, adjacent to the 4-H Fairgrounds. We hope to see you at an upcoming meeting!

We had a great turnout at Saturday’s Martin County Amateur Radio Club (MCARC) free testing session, and we want to extend a sincere thank you to the Volunteer Examiners who donated their time to help make the event possible. A total of four VEs were on site to administer the exams and ensure everything ran smoothly.

In total, 12 individuals sat for exams, and we’re excited to report some excellent results:

🎉 2 new Technician Class licensees
⬆️ 1 upgrade to General Class
🏆 1 upgrade to Amateur Extra

Congratulations to everyone who earned a new license or upgrade! Your hard work paid off, and we look forward to hearing you on the air.

For those who didn’t pass this time, don’t be discouraged. Many great operators needed more than one attempt, and each test is a valuable learning experience. Keep studying and come back to the next session—we’d love to see you succeed.

📅 MCARC is currently scheduling our next free testing session for June 13th, so stay tuned for more details.

Thanks again to our Volunteer Examiners and everyone who participated. Supporting new operators and helping others advance in amateur radio is what our club is all about.

MCARC members braved frigid temperatures to participate in the Winter Field Day 2026 exercise this past weekend. Members deployed and operated remote stations from the Tower Hill Shelter House at Martin State Forest, successfully making contacts across the United States and logging several international contacts as well.

Winter Field Day is an annual amateur radio exercise that gives clubs and operators the opportunity to test their equipment, skills, and operating practices under real winter conditions. Each January, participants set up temporary stations—often outdoors or on emergency power—and operate for a full weekend while dealing with cold weather, limited resources, and changing propagation. The event emphasizes teamwork, station efficiency, and preparedness, while reinforcing amateur radio’s role as a reliable communications capability when normal infrastructure is unavailable.
