As many of you know, Julie Adams of Crazy Dog Ladies Rescue, who has been a core rescuer in our area, is having some major health issues and is no longer able to care for the dogs who she loves dearly. She has rescued thousands of animals and poured her heart and soul into every single one of them. Julie single-handedly has saved these animals and prevented many area pounds from having to put anyone down. Her importance to animal rescue in southeast Missouri is immeasurable. In her time of need, her only care is for the dogs who rely on her.

As a team, Headed Home in The Heartland is coming together to take over the daily care of each one of the animals at Julie's home until we can safely place them into other rescues so they can get adopted by loving families. In order to provide these basic needs, we desperately need your help, your love, your compassion and your generosity.

In reaching out to our rescue partners, Healing Hearts Rescue in MN responded with a MATCHING donation of $5000 to go towards the things we need most! Donate today and your dollars will be doubled with this match! If we reach our goal, that is $10,000 that goes straight to the dogs in Julie's care so we can continue to network them into rescues/adoptive homes. Together we can make a difference for each life Julie has saved.

Ella can’t run when she’s awake, so I choose to believe that’s exactly what she’s doing in her dreams 🥹❤️Judging by the face twitches, she is running FAST, probably causing problems, and absolutely refusing to come when called. 😂💤
Run wild, sweet girl. Your legs work perfectly in your dreams. ❤️🐾

We talk a lot about intentional feeding at Dispatch Dogs, but that means more than throwing an egg, veggies and a sardine in a bowl and calling it healthy. We want to understand WHY we’re adding something. What does it provide? What’s already in their base diet? Are we improving the bowl or accidentally throwing off the balance? Does this dog need something different because of their age, health, activity level or body condition? We care for seniors, puppies, healthy dogs, medically complicated dogs, dogs recovering from surgery and dogs with GI issues. There isn’t one magical bowl that’s right for every dog.
We also know the difference between experience and expertise.
We have a LOT of experience caring for dogs. But there are people who have spent thousands of hours and thousands of dollars studying canine nutrition specifically — and we want to learn from them. Which is why I’m ridiculously excited about The Straight Talking Guide to Dog Food & Nutrition by Cherry Hoggs. 🍒🐷📚

Continuing education is a huge part of what we want Dispatch Dogs to be — behavior, medical care, enrichment, sanitation, nutrition… all of it.

Our standard should never be:
“This is how we’ve always done it.”
It should be:
“This is what we know today, and we’re willing to change what we do tomorrow when we learn better.”

We’re not Team Raw, Team Kibble, Team Homemade or Team Whatever-The-Internet-Is-Yelling-About-This-Week. 😂
We’re Team feed the dog in front of you, understand what’s going into their bowl, and KEEP LEARNING.

Also, I currently have the motivation of an actual child who was told they can go play after cleaning their room because I WANT TO FINISH MY CHORES SO I CAN READ MY DOG NUTRITION BOOK. 😂😭

Please share, tag and consider! This is Lina.

Lina is a round peg. She is noble, loving, protective and vigilant. She is crate and house trained. She loves children. She loves her people.

But Lina’s family offers a square hole. Their home is active and busy and loud. Their yard is adjacent to a park where all day strangers (to Lina) come and go all day. This causes Lina anxiety. Her vigilance becomes hypervigilance. Lina pants and paces. She barks when people come to the door which happens all the time. Lina’s barking at the door doesn’t suit her family. Funny thing is, once a person comes inside with a kind word, Lina is fine.

She’s that way with dogs too. Through the fence or even on a leash sometimes, stranger dogs and something to be scared of and bark at. But once Lina meets them, she’s fine. She’s not fine with thunder though; thunder frightens her. Lina has learned to excuse herself to her crate when thunder happens, huddling alone inside it and trembling.

Lina is a good dog. Lina’s family is a nice family. But Lina is the wrong fit. This has left Lina with less love than she should have. But together we can change that.

The right home for Lina is calm and on the quiet side. It is a home where snuggling is a priority. It is a home that will treasure who she is, and just how vastly Lina loves.

Lina is 35 pound shepherd mix, so rather petite. She is 4.5 years old. She is presently located in the upper Midwest, but transport is available to a wonderful, caring, dedicated, committed and loving rescue or foster-to-adopt. Lina’s current family is not interested in further training or more time. We are worried for Lina, and Lina is worried for herself. Please help us find the setting that little Lina is right for, and where she will be treasured.
