Summer means manatees are on the move!
Travel corridors, or passageways, are necessary for manatees to move back and forth between summer and winter habitats or between feeding and resting or calving areas. It has been documented that many manatees have preferred habitats they return to each year. Learn more at savethemanatee.org/facts

What can a tail tell us?
ICYMI we recently posted a short video of a manatee mating herd and a post showing manatee adoptees Margarito and Philip participating in the herd.
How did our research team know it was them?
Both males have significant tail scaring from collisions with watercraft (in additions to scars on their backs) allowing our team to recognize them.

Photos are then shared with the statewide manatee photo identification database.

‼Remember! If you see a mating herd, keep your distance and don't interfere with the natural behavior. This herd was observed by our research team from a nearby seawall without getting close to the manatees as to not disrupt them.
📞If you are concerned about the manatees, please call the FWC Wildlife Alert Hotline at 1-888-404-3922.
