This last weekend, Camp Olson had the honor of presenting the Keeper of the Dream Award to George Hartson.
George was the first recipient to receive this award posthumously, following his unexpected passing last October. While we wish he could have been with us to receive this recognition, we were grateful to celebrate his life and legacy alongside his sister, Theresa, who joined us for the presentation.
As a young camper, George found something special at Camp Olson, a place where he felt accepted, valued, and free to be himself. That experience stayed with him throughout his life and inspired his commitment to ensuring future generations could find that same sense of belonging.
Whether he was leading the raking crew, sharing stories around a campfire, supporting scholarships for underserved youth, or helping guide the future of camp as a board member, George embodied what it means to keep the dream alive.
We were especially honored to have George's sister, Theresa, with us as we announced the award and celebrated George's life, legacy, and deep connection to Camp Olson.
We miss his laughter, generosity, work ethic, and larger-than-life presence, but his impact continues to be felt throughout camp. George helped make Camp Olson a place where people feel they belong, and that legacy will continue for generations to come.
Congratulations, George. This honor could not be more deserved.
