Nearly 130 million U.S. adults read below a sixth-grade level, creating barriers to employment, financial stability, and personal growth.

At East Texas Literacy Council, we believe every adult deserves the opportunity to unlock their potential through literacy.

"I finally get to give my mom a graduation picture to go on the wall." Graduation has a whole different meaning when it finally comes around for adults who weren't sure if they would ever have their high school diploma. 🎓

We are so proud of these graduates. They finished because they never stopped trying - even when it felt like too much.

🎓 One student. One tutor. One goal. Countless possibilities.

Behind every GED earned is a story of determination.

This video features one of our adult learners who is working one-on-one with her tutor as she prepares for her GED. Every tutoring session, every math problem, and every hour spent studying brings her one step closer to achieving her goal.

Tutoring does more than build academic skills. It builds confidence, persistence, and belief in what's possible.

As our students work toward their GEDs, we are always looking for caring volunteers who can help them succeed. If you're comfortable with basic high school math and have an hour or two to give each week, you can make a real difference in someone's life.
